And when the flash dissipated, Tomi could see that Patrick was a girl. "Patrick?" she said. "Patricia, I guess you'd be now? Pat?"
When she said "Pat," Patricia responded. "That isn't going to work," she said. "I'm a girl! Pushing me into the locker room isn't going to change me."
"But you were a guy!" said Tomi. "Your name was Patrick. And you changed into a girl. You mean you don't remember being a guy?"
"Don't be silly," said Patricia. "I was a girl all along. You were the one who got changed from a guy into a girl. You were Tommy."
"I was not!" exclaimed Tomi. "I was a girl named Tomi all along, you were the guy!"
"You were the guy," said Patricia. "You had this big crush on me, but you knew I'm a lesbian...." Patricia was remembering what it would be like if Patricia had been a girl all along, but Tomi was a guy until an hour ago. Needless to say, that hadn't really happened, since they were both guys until recently.
"No, I was a girl all along, and you were the guy! And I'm the lesbian." Though sexual preferences could change with the magic locker room, in this case, they didn't. "You're not--guys can't be lesbians. And I saw you change. I was always like this."
"Wait a minute," said Patricia. "Each of us thinks we were a girl all along but the other one was a guy. But we can't both be right. We need to find out what the real truth is somehow. Maybe we can ask the teachers or someone else..."
