"Wait, Becky," Chaz suddenly said. He said it with a sense of kindness in his voice that Becky had never heard before.
She spun around. "What?!" She was still angry.
"I'm sorry I intruded on your privacy. I feel like such a jerk."
"Well, you are a jerk, Chaz." She stopped and looked at him. He wasn't being a jerk now, and she wondered why.
"Can't we make up? How about we go ..."
"I knew it! You're just playing me so you can get a date!"
"No, that's not it. I was just asking if you want to go out and shop with me. At the mall."
Becky was confused. "You want to go shopping? With me?"
"Sure, why not?"
"Um, okay."
Chaz smiled. "Great, then I'll meet you there after school. I'll be in the food court." He turned around and walked down the hall. Yes, he was being nice to her, but Chaz was still the womanizing jerk he was before. It's just that he had inside information about girls that he was putting to good use ... for his own reasons. Having this new knowledge didn't necessarily mean that he was now a good person.
