"Can we do some arts and crafts?" Vicky asked.

"Okay. That could be fun." Mrs. Diver said. "Does anybody else have any suggestions?" She then looked at all of the other girls in turn and they all thought about it and shook their heads. "Well then I guess arts and crafts it is. How about we make friendship bracelets?"

A round of cheers went up from the girls who all seemed very excited.

"Okay." Mrs. Diver said. "Left me just get everything out of the car and I'll show you how to make them."

An hour later all of the girls had managed to make passably good friendship bracelets which they all exchanged with one another back and forth so many times that nobody could remember who had made which one. Mikey ended up with one that was purple and white with a stripe of pink in it. He wouldn't have thought that he would like that color combination but for some reason, he thought it was the best looking out of all of the ones the girls had made. Even better than the blue, red and black one that he had made.

When they'd cleaned up the craft supplied it was time it was time to start preparing dinner. Mrs. Reynolds showed a few a the girls, including Mikey, how to safely cut vegetables, while Mrs. Diver led the rest of the girls on a hunt for firewood for that night's campfire.

The stir fry they had for dinner was one of the best things Mikey could remember eating and he felt a fair amount of pride at having helped create it.

Once it was dark, out came the marshmallows to toast over the fire and the chocolate bars and graham crackers to make Smores. They sang a couple of campfire songs that Mikey tried to join in on, but he didn't really know the words. Nobody made fun of him for not being good at singing and they all encouraged him to keep trying.

Loud dramatic yawns were occurring frequently around the campfire as ghost stories were told and several girls heads, including Mikey's, kept bobbing up and down as they tried not to fall asleep. Mikey was vaguely aware of being picked up and carried to his bed where he slept like a baby the whole night through.
