"Jon, this is fun," said Sherry, "but... it's not you..."

"Oh, I don't mind, Mom," said Jon.

"Come on, Jon," said Sherry. "Stand up. Let me look at you."

Jon stood up, and so did Sherry. They had breasts, and a woman's crotch, and they were as tall as a mature woman. The signs of age were beginning to show in both their faces, whose features matched exactly. Both were wearing the same type of clothes, and even makeup.

"We're the same," said Sherry. She didn't feel like she had a son at all. She felt like she had a twin sister.

"I wanted to change back," said Jon. The idea of changing back was still in his... her... mind, but it was no longer so urgent because she was relatively comfortable with her new situation. "I still do, but it's like... I wouldn't mind being me, but I don't mind being you, either."

"Sure," said Sherry. "Jon, I hope it's over now, though. I don't see a way you could become much more like me."

After lunch, Sherry had to go. "I have a job interview at 2 PM today," she said. (Author's note: if there's no father in the story, it's unlikely that Jon's mother is a housewife.)

"Yeah," replied Jon. "I'd better get ready so we can go."

"Wait a minute..." said Sherry. "We?"

"I just feel I should too," replied Jon. "Besides, if I'm like you, I should be expected at the job interview, too."

Sherry was about to disagree, but stopped dead when she saw the note attached by a magnet to the refrigerator door. It used to say "Job interview for me at 2 Thursday." It now read "Job interview for me and Jon at 2 Thursday." Jon really was more like her.

Zoe unlocked the door. She wasn't sure if her mother was home yet, since she was supposed to have had a job interview. "Hi, Mom... are you here?"

The other goth girl with her laughed. "Hi, Mom," she yelled. "Are you here?" Lowering her voice to normal, she continued, "They'll never know if it's your Mom or my Mom. They both had job interviews, you know."

Sherry had just shown Jon that she had the stone in her purse and was about to let Jon take it, now that the transformation seemed to be over, when the door opened. Both women got up from the couch and went over to the door, which Jon opened. They were expecting Zoe--it was her voice after all--but they were astonished to see two girls who both looked exactly like Zoe.

"Wait a minute," said Sherry. "You..."

"Uh, Mom?" said one Zoe. Then the other repeated, "Mom?"

Sherry and Jon looked at each other, utterly confused.

"Earth to Mom," said one Zoe. She looked closely at Sherry's and Jon's face and then gave Jon a hug. "You're my Mom," she said. And Zoe hugged Sherry.

"What's going on here?" asked Jon.

"Did you hit your head, Mom?" asked the same one. "You two are almost exactly alike."

"I know that," said Jon. She supposed it could have been worse. At least Sherry had wished Jon would become more like her, not exactly like her, or else nobody would be able to tell them apart even by looking at tiny details of their faces.

"Let me start again," said (this) Zoe. "You two are almost exactly alike. You have the same face, the same hair, the same everything. You have the same children, too.

"What? I have a daughter named Zoe?" asked Jon, "And M-- Sherry also has a daughter named Zoe? And our daughters look and sound exactly the same?"

"I believe I just said that," said the first Zoe.

"How do we tell you apart?" replied Jon.

"You've been telling us apart for 15 years," said the second Zoe. "What's gotten into you, Mom?"

"But we can't use the same name for two people in the same house," said Jon.

"It's usually obvious who you're talking to when you're looking at them," replied the second Zoe. "Besides, we do lots of things together, so you usually want both of us anyway."

The two Zoes went off. Down the hall were two rooms, right across from each other. Both were decked out mostly in black and the contents of each were pretty much the same. Since both Zoes wanted to talk to each other they finally decided on one room. "I like what you've done with this room," said the first Zoe.

"It's the same as yours," said the second.

"Is not. Remember there was only one of that poster and I couldn't get one?"

"Yeah, well, anyway. Our Moms seem to be acting strange. Maybe it was stress from the job interview. I wonder if they got the jobs."
