Bethany thought for just a second or two before saying, "I think I would like to go to the church fundraiser." She thought to herself, 'I can't get into much trouble there can I?'
Bethany's date, Ted E. "Bear" Johnson, drove the pair to the local church where there was already a bit of a crowd forming. Once there he bought ten dollars worth of nickel chips for both of them and they began to spend it on the games of chance.
The church planned to make money two ways with this fund raiser.
First, like any gambling institute, the odds favored the house, so they would come out ahead that way.
Secondly, the prizes were donated and could be 'bought' with ones winnings, and were about 50% over priced.
No one cared as it was all for a good cause.
It didn't take Bear more than a half hour to loose his ten dollars of chips. But in that time, Bethany had managed to win over forty dollars in chips.
"Bet more." Bear suggested, hoping that Bethany would loose her chips soon as he was not having as good of time as he had hoped to have.
Bethany followed his advice and doubled her bets. A half hour later, she was up over one hundred dollars in chips.
