Susan, who was still talking, picked up the rock to hand back to Robin. As she did so she said, "I wish we could best girlfriends forever. I never had a best girlfriend before, someone I could share my secrets with. I feel I could with you."
Robin, whose mind was still a bit befuddled by her sudden change of sex, felt suddenly much less befuddled. If she had to be a girl, then having a best friend who was also a girl just made sense. She did like Susan more than enough to be best friends with her. Besides, she had never had a best girlfriend either.
Somehow knowing the right thing to do, Robin hugged Susan and said "I'd like that very much."
Neither noticed that Robin's lucky rock had somehow been knocked behind the night stand between their beds.
The next day, Robin was almost as happy as was Susan when the result of her test came back that nothing was wrong with her.
The two girls remained best friends, acting as bridesmaid/maid of honor at each others weddings, and being there for each triumph and disaster, no matter how big or small.
