Jon realized what was going on. Once he had walked a mile in Zoe's shoes, they'd switch back. Only... Zoe was dead. He'd switch with a corpse, and Zoe and Jon would then be both dead.
Quickly he took off his shoes and walked in stockings to a bench, where he sat. The stone couldn't bring Zoe, in his own body, back to life, but maybe it could come close.
"I wish that my body with Zoe in it would be brought back as much as possible."
Faster than it had appeared, the pain disappeared.
"Now I wish that when I walk the last step in the mile and switch back, the stone will come with me, and Zoe and Mom will forget about the stone and the body swap."
Jon put the shoes on, stood up and took one last step. His surroundings flickered, leaving him in a different place, still holding the stone, and back in his own body with Zoe in hers.
