Lauren stood in the corner hyperventilated as Patty continued to examine her new reflection in the mirror. This day had somehow become a living nightmare. It shouldn't be possible but somehow she switched places with Fatty Patty. The proof was on her nose. Literally. It explained why she couldn't see when she took off these hideous glasses but not why she and Patty still looked like themselves unless they looked into the mirror.
She tried to think how this could have happened and thought back to what happened a few minutes ago. She remembered being disoriented and her argument with Patty in the hallway. "The wish!..." Lauren said aloud.
Peeling her attention away from the mirror, Patty asked "What?"
"The wish that we made. It somehow came true and made us switch places... We need to wish ourselves back." Lauren explained.
Patty wasn't sure what caused this. It couldn't have been just be because they made some idle wish or else everyone would do it. Nevertheless, for the first time in her life Patty felt like she finally won something and there was no way she would willingly give it up. "Why would I want to do that?" she asked Lauren.
Lauren was briefly left speechless. "Because that's my body and life you have. I want them back!" she said.
"They were your body and life. You gave them to me remember? I'd rather be Lauren Rodriguez than Patty Davis. I'm cute and I'm skinny now" she said as she pulled her shirt up over her bulging midsection and looked in the mirror as Lauren's reflection exposed her trim waist. As she ran her hand over her large gut, Lauren's reflection copied her and felt up her athletic abs. "...And I HAVE a boyfriend now... a hot one at that. Why would I want give that up and go back to being some fat loser that nobody likes?" Patty asked Lauren.
"I can't be you... Please... I'm sorry!. I'll do anything you want." Lauren pleaded as she began to cry.
"Sorry Lauren or should I say Fatty Patty now. There are no refunds. Enjoy my old life because I'm going to enjoy yours." Patty said triumphantly.
For the first time that she could recall, Patty felt like she was actually a winner. When she got up this morning, she had no idea her horrible life was about to get better. There were many more attractive or popular girls at school Patty would have rather become than Lauren Rodriguez but she would take Lauren's skinny tom girl life over hers any day.
Patty started walking out of the bathroom and back into the hallway when Lauren said aloud "I wish I was me again..."
Patty stopped and chuckled at Lauren who fell back onto the floor and started sobbing before moving on.
"I wish I was Lauren Rodriguez." Lauren said with desperation.
Patty laughed as she stepped out into the hallway and left the "new" Patty Davis behind in the bathroom. She walked over to where her new books and purse were. Luckily she at least knew that Lauren's... or rather her next class was chemistry with Ms. Tran. She already had her last period but Patty didn't mind doing it again that day. She was fairly good in that class anyways. Picking up her new belongings, Patty made her way back over to the class she just finished.
Back in the women's bathroom, Lauren curled up into a fetal position on the floor in the bathroom and cried her eyes out. She didn't want to be stuck as Fatty Patty.
