Jonnie sat in her room, on the edge of her now rather girly bed, holding the wishing stone between her fingers. Her shoulders were slumped, she was somewhat depressed. The lights were turned off, the only light came through the window. Beads of rain fell on the windowpane and the sounds of far off thunder could be heard. She ran her fingers through her hair. She could, perhaps, get used to having it this way. She adjusted her legs. She wasn't used to crossing them that way, even though it felt most natural. She let out a deep sigh and looked out the window at the cloudy day.
There was a soft knock at the bedroom door. Karyn poked her head through the door.
"Hey."
"Oh, hey," muttered Jonnie.
"So, it's true?" asked Karyn, "Jon... you're now... Jonnie?"
"Yeah," sighed Jonnie, turning away.
"Does anyone else know?"
"No," Jonnie said softly, "what would they say? Mikey and Zoe would make fun of me, and Mom would walk around the house all day saying how it was all her fault... it would ruin the family. And the kids at school..." Jonnie shuddered. "You're the only one I can trust, Karyn."
Karyn took a seat on the bed next to Jonnie and gave her a friendly pat on the shoulder. "I'm here for you Jon...nie." they laughed just a little bit.
"I just wish," Jonnie sighed, perfectly aware she was holding the stone, "that I could be happy."
Jonnie and Karyn looked away from the window. when they looked again, the sun was shining and some birds were chirping.
"Jonnie?" asked Karyn, "how do you feel?"
