Jon joined Karyn like he'd promised. Jon decided not to let how miserable he felt inside ruin a nice evening with a good friend, so he put up a strong front, and even managed to crack a few weak jokes about the changes. They ate their food and continued watching their movie. Despite the situation, Jon realized that he was still having a good time.
Karyn placed her empty box in a trash can and pulled out her purse. "How much do I owe you, Jon?" she asked.
Jon shook his head. "It's on me. You've been so supportive through this rough time, it's the least I can do for my best friend."
Karyn smiled. "Yeah." She glanced over at him. "You know, we used to be close, but I've felt even closer to you lately than before."
Jon nodded. "I guess going through times like this together is one way to strengthen a friendship." He paused. "Then again, becoming a practical twin of someone's bound to bring them closer too."
They finished watching the movie and began to clean up when the phone rang. Jon was carrying the garbage bag outside so he asked Karyn to answer it. She did, but then a few moments later yelled out to Jon in the garage. "Jon, it's your mom! Come quick, she says it's important!"
