Driving was proving to be very cathartic, and JC couldn't be more appreciative for that.
For the first time in what seemed like forever but in reality had been less than 24 hours, she felt as though she could relax...somewhat, anyway. She still didn't know who was the CJ she saw leaving the ballet studio with Karyn and Jon's mom, but frankly, she hardly cared to concern herself with that at this point. Those two had planned to control her life, and she'd escaped, and that's all there was to it.
Honestly, JC was pretty excited to see what her new life would be like; she already seemed to be well-liked among her peers, she was in great shape, and besides, if she no longer wanted to be JC, she --
Uh-oh, JC thought to herself as she pulled up to a stoplight. If I no longer want to be JC...
It had suddenly occurred to her that she'd left an important clause in her initial wish to become the teenage dancer she was now: "I wish that, until I say, I was a seventeen-year-old ballerina named JC who works here as a part-time instructor." "Until I say." And if I do say, then what? What becomes of me?
As much as she hated the thought, JC knew she'd have to make another long-distance wish, but she quickly justified it to herself as a worthy cause. I can't have myself just magically turning into a boy in front of people, or being shunted back into CJ's situation, for that matter. So, here goes nothing...
Hoping no one in the car next to her was looking, JC spoke aloud to no one in particular but the stone: "I wish that if I ever choose to no longer be JC as part of my original wish to become her, time will freeze for everyone and everything except me until I choose a new form, at which point time will completely unfreeze."
There. That should do it, JC thought, as the light turned green and she continued her trip toward her new home.
When she finally turned into the driveway of a well-maintained two-story house, JC was in for a surprise, as she suddenly realized why the name "Calloway" had sounded so familiar -- her new sister was standing in the driveway, and it was definitely a classmate of Jon's!
