After the three girls arrived at Ruth Ann's house, CJ pulled Karyn aside. "Karyn, I need to talk to you alone for a minute."
"What is it, Jon? I mean, CJ. Sorry. I'll have to get used to this," Karyn said.
She noticed that CJ was making a funny look. "Why did you call me Jon? That's a boy's name."
Now it was Karyn that had the funny look. "Because you were a boy. Don't you remember?"
"I don't know what you're talking about, Karyn," CJ said. "I've always been a girl."
This isn't good. Is the Jon that I know gone forever? Karyn thought. While she liked that Jon was now a girl, she didn't like that the boy who had been her closest friend for years was now suddenly gone. Maybe Mrs. M can fix this somehow.
"What did you want to tell me?" Karyn asked.
