She made the block and a half walk to the school bus stop where she saw some other girls. As she approached, one of them said, "Hi."
The small part of CJ that was Jon wanted to run and hide. Since he had no control of CJ's body, he ran and hide the only way he could, he buried himself as deep as he could in CJ's subconscious.
Meanwhile, CJ waved back to her friend and said, "Hi Britney. Cute top. Is it new?"
"Yes. Mom and I went shopping last night so I could spend some of my babysitting money. There was a sale at K. D. Nickels department store."
The two girls continued to talk about clothes. As other girls joined the conversation the topic shifted from clothes to boys. None of the girls were old enough to be dating, but they were beginning to notice boys, and more importantly the difference between boys and girls.
The gaggle of girls continued to talk until the bus deposited them at school. Once there, the group broke up as the girls split off to go to their respective classes.
CJ enjoyed school. While she didn't have direct access to Jon's memory, she had indirect access. As the teacher discussed topics, it was more like CJ was remembering what was being taught rather than having to learn the topic.
Jon had not like school, but CJ did, in no small part to how easy she was learning. Plus, CJ had a larger and closer group of friends than Jon ever had.
As the school day came to an end, CJ joined her girlfriends and boarded the school bus for the ride home. Even before they sat down, the girls were talking about clothes, boys, music, movies, and a dozen other subjects that pre-teen girls discussed.
