He looked at the bill and saw "Vanessa McMillan.
"That's Sarah's mom," said Karyn. "I remember that much... But what does it mean?"
"I don't know," said Jon. "I don't think it rules out anything... well, maybe the last name part, but..."
"Does it matter?" replied Karyn.
"Well, of course it matters. You didn't really mean to kill Sarah... uh, did you?... but I know you didn't really mean for whatever happened to have happened, whether it's a name change or turning her into an android."
"I admit it," said Karyn, "I wasn't thinking, but does it matter?"
"How can it not matter? There's a big difference between...."
"No, Jon, I mean really, does it matter? You have a magic stone. It makes wishes. We don't know what the stone did to make Sarah not be born, but we don't have to know. We can change it! We can make there be a different reason why she was never born! All you need to do is wish that the reason Sarah wasn't born is, whatever. We can decide whether she just changed her name or whether she's an android. We don't need to take whatever the stone decided to give us."
Jon thought about it and replied, "It's a hard decision to make. But you're right, we should be doing the deciding, not a rock. I wish we were at my place where we could discuss this."
They reappeared in Jon's room, but Jon immediately excused himself to put his normal clothes on. Then Jon and Karyn sat down to try to figure out exactly why they wanted Sarah to have never been born. Finally, they decided....
