Joshua sits in the darkness of his room. Floating before him is two glowing squares. One the large computer monitor resting on his desk, while the other is the tiny glow of the phone. His eyes are locked on the phone.
"Hey, Allie! Wondering if you want to come over today?"
He cries out in distress, then mutters. "Are we close enough friends for me to call her Allie?" He chuckles. "Allie-cat?" His face turns white. "No! Nonono! That'd be asking to get slapped."
He deletes the text and begins to tap out a new message.
"Dear Allison, I was wondering if you'd still like to attend..."
He throws his hands up, and chides himself. "Oh, I guess I'm just inviting her over to my estate for some tea and a romp through the hedge maze." He burries his face in his arms and groans. It's easy to talk to her at school. She asks about math, and once he starts talking about math, it's easy to just settle into his usual nerdy stuff. But now? Now he's trying to invite her over to his house. A girl in his house! By themselves! His palms get sweaty and he shakes his head. He hops onto the computer and distracts himself with facebook before sending her a friend request. That's a good neutral way to start right? With a deep breath he turns his attention back to the phone, and tries to find the words for another message.
"Hey! It's Joshua. Do you still want to come over today?" SEND! SENT! DONE!
Joshua immediately smacks himself on the face. "Gah!" He cries in distress "Like she's really going to hang out with me. She's probably with Ryder. I'm such a creep!"
He dives into his computer trying to forget what he's just done. Under his breath, he whispers soothingly. "The worst she can say is no... And the best she could say is... maybe yes?" His face deadpans. "Well... The worst she could do is to share my text with her friends, and make fun of me, and make my school year miserable." His forehead meets his desk with a resounding thud.
His phone buzzes.
"ok"
"I need a distraction rn..."
He read the text, then read it again to be sure it was real. She wanted to hang out. Allison was hanging out with him, and apparently something was going on. Maybe it was problems with Ryder? That could be bad... But... it could be good too.
He settled into his chair with a sigh. A girl is coming over to his place... No... Not just a girl. A really hot girl who actually seems to like him is coming over to his place. His place... His messy... disgusting... filthy...
Joshua leaps from his chair, and shouts "I need to clean!" Immediately he goes about preparing his humble basement abode for a guest.
