"I wish that the first person in the wishing chain was Jon," Sarah told the wishing stone.
As much as she wanted revenge, Sarah was still concerned her whole plan might backfire. She wanted her most hated enemy to feel the brunt of this opportunity more than anyone else, but "“ although it seemed unlikely "“ it was possible that this could backfire and give that person only nice and beneficial gifts.
She needed a guinea pig. And since she didn't care about Jon one way or the other, he was perfect.
"I wish that the wish chain Jon starts will end in one week, at which point I will both gain the power to start a new wish chain with someone else I choose and automatically cancel out any of the wishes in the chain that I don't like."
"I wish my second wish chain will continue until I wish to end it, at which point the same things will happen."
Good, now she wouldn't even need the stone to start another wish chain. Although, Jon might figure out what's happening, or wish for it... just then, Sarah heard the footsteps of someone coming back up the stairs to Jon's room. She had to think fast.
"I wish that this stone will lie to hide the origins of the wishing chain, any other wishes I've made and the fact I've ever touched it," she said quickly.
She then stuffed the stone back in its hiding place and sat down on Jon's bed, trying to radiate innocence. A moment later, Jon opened the door with a drink in his hand.
"Here you are," he offered her the glass.
"Nothing for you?" she asked.
"I'm not thirsty," Jon replied. "So, are we going to study or what?"
