Jon paced his room, Sarah's room, trying to work off his nervous tension. He felt so helpless. There was no way he could go after the rock himself even if he could muster the desire to do so. In the end, it all came down to the whim of a girl who had no liking for him whatsoever.
Of course, he still had one option. He could see if he could get close to Sarah, get on her good side, and then convince her to undo the damage. This would require taking a gamble and revealing his identity to her when she held all the power. Despite the danger, however, the risks were the same as before. Besides, if he stayed silent to blend in with the other Sarahs, she could simply wish to recognize him. In fact, the more he hid, the more she would probably chase him. Perhaps, it would be better to confront her, not as an enemy but as a potential friend.
Taking a deep breath, he mustered up new resolve. Tomorrow, he would go over to Sarah's house and talk to her.
At that moment, he heard a soft clicking noise coming from downstairs. It had to be Mikey trying out some new shoes. He glanced down at his own feet and kicked off his dangerously tilted footwear. Sighing with relief, he noticed that he now sported painted toenails thanks to that morning's makeover. Briefly, he wondered what footwear Sarah would pick for tomorrow. No doubt everyone would just happen to pick the same ones and leave him out of the loop again. A small part of him was tempted to envy the others. With their nearly telepathic link to the fashion queen, they would never have to worry about not fitting in.
Suddenly, this gave Jon an idea. Maybe he could get some insight into Sarah's mind through her clones since they had become extensions of her personality. Even more importantly, he could get some practice approaching her without the threat of the rock. If he could pinpoint her motivations and gain some understanding of her, it would certainly make his job easier.
Exiting his room, he headed downstairs. He found his former younger brother, now twin (or triplet) sister, in the kitchen getting a drink. Sure enough, she was strutting around in a new pair of shoes.
"Looks good on you," Jon complimented.
Mikey spun around in surprise before blushing prettily. "Why, thanks, Jon. I thought so, too."
Taking that as a good sign, Jon pressed on. "Sale at the mall?"
The other girl nodded. "Yeah. I had to fight the crowds, but I still found a lot of really cute stuff. There's loads more in my room. You wanna see them?"
Jon considered it. Normally, he would shy away from the idea, but the situation called for some sacrifice. "You know, I think I would like to take a look."
"Great! And maybe you can try some on. It helps we're the same size. C'mon." Motioning him to follow her, she scampered upstairs. Jon trudged behind her, reminding himself that this was for the greater good.
