Exciting wasn't the right word. It was exhilarating!
Jon even surprised himself. No matter how much he tried to think about something else, he had butterflies fluttering through his stomach the entire day.
It was his debut. The first Thursday home game since he had made the JV cheer squad. He hated the idea of it. Earlier that morning Jon begrudgingly pulled on the uniform; sleeveless midriff top trimmed in blue and gold, long-sleeve stretchy crop top for underneath, matching tiny white skirt, and crisp white tennis shoes. He cursed himself for having the foresight to shave his legs the night before, it only added to the package. After Sarah finished adding a ribbon to his hair, Jon had a chance to look himself in the mirror. An inward sigh escaped his lips while Sarah grinned like a demon behind him. Jon was dressed like every man's dream, and this time, he was going to have a starring role.
He planned on being embarrassed, "for like, all day."
What he didn't plan on though, was how he'd feel after he stepped through the school's heavy double-doors. Being a cheerleader was like being royalty! The preferential treatment wasn't limited to jealous looks from the other girls, however. It was everywhere! He could cut line at lunch, walk late to class, leave to the bathroom whenever he wanted! The results had changed a little; getting a faster salad, tardy to home ec, and heading the ladies' room, but it hadn't changed Jon, who always dreamed about doing these kind of things.
It was the best day! For all these perks, he'd gladly shake pom-poms and be the perfect little cheerleader, no problem!
He didn't see much of Karyn, though he was sure she was keeping it together. Jon wondered if she was using that silver sparkle nail polish he loaned her.
She was really coming around! Her tan was getting darker, fashion choice a little better, and it was all because of him. He should sell his services sometime! Jon had to admit, he was getting good at being convincing. It was such a win-win. Nothing wrong with having a more improved Karyn by the time he got back to being "real" Jon, was there? Plus, he liked spending time with her -- they were such BFF's!
Jon finished touching up his make-up and turned on his heel, admiring what the motion looked like in the bathroom mirror.
Tonight was going to be so fun. Cheering in front of a full crowd, taking advantage of cheerleading's fringe benefits, and getting closer to Sarah.
One step closer to the stone, right? And to think he was embarrassed earlier. As if!
