"I think I'll be kind," Sarah said, with a big smile. "The first person will be Kyla Leeson." Kyla was one of the biggest geeks in school, but she was also one of the smartest students. She may not have had the status that Sarah and her boyfriend Biff had, but in the geek crowd she was very popular, despite her shyness.

At that moment, she was at the library, studying with fellow geeks Jay Duncan, Leonard Drullers, and Carl James. They had a big test coming up and were preparing for it.

Kyla looked up from her book and glanced at Jay. Ever since middle school, she had had a crush on him, but she was too shy to say anything about it. Why did she have to be so timid?

Jay looked up from his own book and smiled at her, then went back to reading. Kyla wasn't sure, but she thought that maybe Jay already knew how she felt. It's just that Kyla wanted to muster the courage to tell him herself and not leave it at uncertain feelings.

She was about to say something about it, but got interrupted by Carl.

"Check that one out over there," he told Jay.

Jay turned around and looked at the young librarian girl that was bending over. They may have been geeks, but they were still guys. "Whoa," Jay said.

Kyla was annoyed. Here she was trying to tell Jay how she felt about him and all he could think about was some stupid librarian girl.

"I wish Jay would only think about me," she whispered to herself.

As Kyla made her wish, Sarah saw the stone glowing. She smiled, knowing that the first "wish chain" wish had been granted.

Even though the "wish chain" worked independently of the stone, it still needed energy to function and it extracted it from the stone, which was why the stone glowed whenever a "wish chain" wish was granted.

Downstairs in the kitchen, Jon was getting something to drink for Sarah. Why was she even there? Yes, she said she needed help for history class. But they've had tough tests for history all year. Why did she pick now to get help from him? The only reason he could come up with was that she needed to get in his house. But why would she ...

Jon's eyes went wide and he dropped the glass he was pouring a drink into. It shattered on the floor with a crash. It must have been the stone she was after. And he left her alone in his room!

"Jon! What was that?" his mom yelled, from the living room.

"Shit," Jon said. "I wish I never allowed Sarah to come in." He looked down at the mess he made, as his mom ran into the room in a panic.

"Sorry. I accidentally dropped it," Jon said.

"What were you doing down here anyway?" she asked, getting paper towels to clean up the mess.

"I was getting a drink for Sarah."

"I thought she was here to study."

"Uh ... she is. Listen, I've got to ... um ... check on something," Jon said, moving quickly past his mom and out of the room. As he walked upstairs, he dreaded what he would find in his bedroom. In his mind, he pictured Sarah holding the stone and grinning. Maybe Jon was psychic, because that's exactly what he found when he entered his room.
