Karyn bit her lip as she looked at her hand. She’d been sort of excited for this game at the beginning. Transformations were cool, and this looked like a fun way to play with them. But the glowing card in the air reinforced the idea that these cards were real and going to do real things. And the unfamiliar weight on her chest of her new boobs made transformations more real.

She was still going to play, she decided, but not in the sudden harsh way that she was going to play moments ago. She didn’t need to punish Jon for not reading the rulebook. He trusted her to read the rules while he got the cards ready. That’s just how they did board games.

Still, it was sorta his fault that she had the blonde hair and boobs, right? A bit of friendly transformation was just fair play.

“Okay, I’m going to play a card. A simple outfit change to beachwear. I could play it on myself, turning what I’m wearing into a bikini…” she smirked as Jon gulped at the thought. “But I think I’ll play it on you instead. All of the cards in this game can be played on anyone, which I think might even mean people who aren’t playing. But the cards are written with the POV of the person being changed. However, since I’m the one who played the card, I get to decide the details of the card. So, Jon-boy, let’s see you in those blue swim trunks with the dolphins you wore at the beach last year.”

Karyn played the card on the bed between them, and it glowed brighter and brighter, making both Jon and Karyn blink. When the light faded, the card was gone, and Jon’s clothes had changed. The t-shirt and jeans he’d worn to school were gone, and in their place, all Jon was wearing was the aforementioned blue swim trunks. They were a bit tight, since Karyn had been imagining a specific item of clothing, and not just a generic set of blue trunks.

“Oh, right, magical game.” Jon said, looking down. “I hope that shirt comes back, it was a limited print run.”

“It’s supposed to.” Karyn assures him. “Everything reverts back when the game is over. You can also get it back by ending the change. But that costs cards, and it’s up to you if showing skin is all that bad.”

“If I played that on you, you’d be singing a different tune about showing skin.” Jon moved a card in his hand. “How tall are you?”

“Five foot four. Why?”

“Not anymore. Drastic Shrinking brings you down a full foot.”

Karyn let out an “Eep!” as she felt the clothes around her grow. The room towered up as well. When the movement stopped, she wasn’t quite swimming in her clothes, but they obviously didn’t fit anymore. She also noticed that her feet couldn’t feel the floor anymore.

“You couldn’t visualize my clothes shrinking with me, huh?” She said, rolling up the sleeves on her sweater.

“Sorry! I thought it would flash again and then you’d just be shorter. I didn’t know it would do that.”

“Neither of us knew, Jonny, but trust me, there’s still a lot of visualization to go. Let me show you how to end a transformation. Animal Feet, on myself!” Karyn played the card down on the bed. Nothing happened. Both of them stared at the card.

“Did we break it?” Jon asked.

“God, I hope not. If I knew the game was this hacked together, I would have canceled the transformation. Being the same height I was when I was nine would be a pain.”

“The card is still floating up there. And it… wait, didn’t it have two orbs before?”

Karyn laughed. “The round ended! The Objective card removed a counter, and now the game’s waiting for us to do some admin. Draw a new objective.”

Jon obediently reached for the blue deck and pulled a new objective. “Hottest. The point goes to the person who is the most physically attractive.” he read and like before, the card flew up into the air. “That’s a vague one. How do we decide that?”

“For a two-player game, both of us have to agree. The game claims to want CLEAR winners, so we need to be unanimous. And while I unfortunately have the body, being this small probably counts against me. And you’re dressed for it, but you’ve not quite got the body for it.”

“Hey! I resemble that remark!” Jon said with a smile. “So now we draw a card?”

“Yeah, but we can discard cards if we want first. Clear the hands of duds. You draw two cards or fill your hand with five, whichever is first. So, if you trash too many, you lose options.”

Karyn was happy enough with her hand, but Jon decided to toss Low Inhibitions. It could be fun, but it looked like it could be trouble that he wasn’t ready for.

Karyn drew Drastic Growth, the mirror of what Jon had played on her. Jon drew Role: Secretary and Inanimate Form. He raised an eyebrow. They were a lot of reading compared to some of the other cards he had in his hand already.
