Doing it here would be great. I could make the trip easily and I could have this as my main base of operations in the region. I had to speak to the village chief. He had not heard much of me, but he trusted me enough when I had listed my accomplishments to him. "Oh, yes, I've heard of you. It's what all the youngsters keep talking about. It seems that you're a good fighter." he said. I thanked him for the kind words. "What brings you here?" he asked. I just smiled kindly and said "I would like to build a small home here. Would that be fine with you, chief? Mazaca Village is such a great place to live." He looked at me up and down. I just stood there as he went over me very skeptically. "I do not think we have space for you here. I bet it's much too quiet for your liking anyway. I'm so sorry." he said. That was not good. "What can I do to change your mind? I really want to live here. Please!?" I begged him. He just scratched his cheek. Clearly, he was not ready for me to whine at him. "Well, if you want to live here so much...!" he started. I stopped it and looked at him. He just narrowed his eyes at me.

Even I could tell that I was starting to get on his nerves. That was not good. I needed him to like me. He had to sign off on all the building permits in the area. If he wanted to get rid of me, it would be all over. He said "There is a problem that I've been having recently." he said. I nodded my head and waited for him to speak. "I fear that some of my youngsters have been messing around with bandits nearby. I don't know for sure, but I'd like you to find out." he said. That was something I could do. "What would you like me to do if they are bandits?" I asked him. This was important. "I want you to scare them a little. Do not kill them. Just... bring them back to me." he said. I could do that. That was simple enough for someone great at combat like me. I waited until the nighttime came. There were indeed villagers that tried sneaking off. I followed them until I saw a trio of bandits meet up with them. It was true that they were joining them. "Stop right there." I said. All 5 of them turned to me. "The village chief wants you back in your village! Stop messing around!" They all went hostile towards me then.

It was easy for me to kick their ass. I was not supposed to kill them. At the very least, I was not supposed to kill the 2 villagers. After pummeling them with my shield, they were all on the ground. That was good enough for me. I dragged them by the back of the shirt. They were both whimpering in fear. They had not seen me when I went to the village elders. For all they knew, I was going to kill them both with the chief's blessing. When we got to the home of the chief, his eldest son answered the door. I told him that I needed to speak to him right away. He went to get his father. When the chief was ready, he came down. He yelled at the villagers that I captured. They just shuddered in fear. After what felt like an hour, the chief dismissed them. The 2 young men scrambled to their feet and then ran off. If they knew what was good for them, they would be going home. The chief then looked at me. I waited for him. "You did good." he said slowly. I nodded my head. "It was nothing." "You said that you wanted to live here, right? Is that still true now?" he asked. "Now more than ever!!" I responded.

Finally, he assented to give his permission to allow me to live there. Mazaca Village would be my first home. This was a good thing. Now that I had this, I could go to the guild and have my manor built. That would help me for an amazing base could provide benefits beyond rest. That would let me win my next 3 fights easily. Winning would then fulfil the conditions for the citizenship quest to progress. My patron would probably tell me what else I would need to do. I made my way back to Ainon. There were some bandits on the road. They did not bother me. It seemed they were looking for the 3 that I beat the shit out of earlier. That was good enough for me. I quietly went on my way. Why would I antagonize them when I already had what I wanted? Making my way back to Ainon, I gave the documents with the chief's seal on it. From there, they said they would gather the materials and go over there to build. I would get a message sent to me from the guild when it was ready. I had to go to the arena to check what was available. He was happy to see me. I asked to team up with the slaves here.
