When a penal slave in the pits was getting too big for their boots or were close to completing their sentence, he would face them. It was to kill them all off. This was the prison sentence. People expected them to die. Obviously, it would not be right for violent criminals to use violence to escape punishment for laws they broke. Vel Leon was an adventurer that lost the trust of his party and was ousted. The adventurer guild did not expel him, so he could take on new quests at any time. For whatever reason, he put that life behind him. He was a great fighter. With his short sword and shield he had superior speed and reflexes. Vel was a sadist. He crippled opponents and taunted them before circling in for the killing blow. He never quite finished the job though. Vel was a pro. Life and death was for the audience to decide. They always chose death. He was always willing to give the people what they wanted. There had been a block of 4 slaves that had been working together to win. That could not be allowed to stand. Vel was here to kill all of them. I had to face off against a satyr.

Xenobiology was not my forte. It did not really matter though. They were mortal like any regular human. I just had to not get gored by the horns or crushed by their black hooves. That was easier said than done. She was using her agility to run circles around me. She could also jump higher than my head without even trying. The one thing I had going for me was that I had great armor and a weapon. Once she was dead, I bowed to the crowd and left the grounds. There was a viewing platform for the participants. I got to see Vel dominate the last member of the slave team. Like always, the cruel crowd wanted his death. That poor young man was executed in front of everyone. In the fifth week, Vel was not fighting. I was personally challenged by the mate of the satyr I had killed in the last fight. He actually had a battle axe. This made him very dangerous. It took a lot of weathering the storm in order to find spots to counterattack. Killing him was not hard. I was not able to do it during the match. He was still alive. The crowd wanted his death. I was not going to piss them off this early.
