I took a quick look around. Every team was down at least one man. Yellow and Red were down 2 men. One of my archer comrades had been taken out. The other archer was in real danger. I ran towards him in order to back him up. Flanking the green swordsman, I began slashing and bashing him in the back. He went down after a few swings. The same exact thing happened with the yellow swordsman my comrade with the sword was facing off against. I beat him down from behind. When he turned to face me, he was taken out by my teammate. I decided to take it easy when yellow team was completely eliminated. Red was next to fall. We still had 3 members and the green team only had 2. The green archer pulled off a lucky headshot and took out the other swordsman of our team. That made it a 2 on 2. I knew that I needed to handle this quickly. I ran straight for the archer. The swordsman got in the way. I did not care. I would take him out. We exchanged a few blows, but I had more health. He was defeated with a vertical slash to their head after a feint to the right. He went down.
As that was happening, the archers were having a shoot off. My archer won and sniped the enemy in the gut. We were all through to the next round. So were the green team members. The others were knocked out of the tournament. The second round of the tournament was the same thing. I was in the first bout, so our win put us on the red team. The second round played out much like the first. I ran around taking out the easy opponents. The teammates backed me up where possible. They also got into their own fights. Sometimes, I would help them. Other times, I would let them handle it on their own for a while. We won the second round. The blue team got to the third round. The third round was where it got interesting. There were only 8 of us. We were split into 2 separate fights. We all had spears and shields. We needed to be able to make it to the final 2. It was every man for himself here. I waited for 2 of the NPCs to engage each other. I then flanked them to score some cheap shots and ran when others tried to fight me. It worked. 2 went down before me. A noble won the third round.
Julianus Minicius Caelestius was his name. Another noble by the name of Herius Lucceius Tremerus won the other bout of the third round. That meant the fourth round would be a 2 on 2 fight. I was teamed up with Julianus and the random Imperial Veteran Archer was paired with Herius. The team that won this round would face off against each other in the final round. I was given a quiver full of javelins. So was the archer. The 2 nobles had the swords and shields this time. It was my job to back up my noble partner. I did not have much skill in throwing javelins. I was pretty quick on my feet. I did not let myself get hit. I ran up towards Herius as he engaged Julianus instead. All my lack of skill in throwing did not matter when I was using them as a melee weapon. He was getting stabbed in the flank and slashed with the sword. Herius got some back up in the form of thrown javelins, but I dodged them all. I was not trying to get hit and lose this round. Once Herius was defeated, taking on the archer was easy. Julianus could do it himself. The crowd went wild with applause. I soaked it all in.
