"Kusari" couldn't help but be proud of what she had accomplished. Why, in no time these two good samaritans would help her track down the escaped little brat. Then she would complete the ceremony and "regain" her humanity. Then the Tengu would again have a foothold in the world of man.
She had hoped her appearance would let her convince that woman that she was her daughter, but apparently not. At least, looking the same as her, the real Kusari would fair no better.
