Cradling her dead pet in her arms, Sarah said "I wish that guy would pay for what he did to my little Muffin."
Suddenly, there was a screeching sound, as if someone was slamming on their brakes, and the car that had hit Sarah's dog came back around the corner. The guy stopped his car and got out.
"How much?" he asked Sarah, taking out his check book.
"What?" she asked, looking up at him through tear-filled eyes.
"How much do you want me to pay you? For compensation."
She looked down at her poodle, then back up at the man that killed her. There was no amount of money that could replace her dog. But ... she might as well take advantage of the situation.
"Ten thousand dollars."
"I'll have to sell my car, but okay."
Sarah was surprised that he agreed so easily. "Make that twenty thousand."
"Hmm. I suppose I could use my savings account money. I was going to use it for my daughter's college, but if that's what you want." He started to write out his check for $20,000.
Sarah was even more surprised than before. She had a feeling that if she asked for much more, he'd go out of his way to give it to her. And she decided to test that theory right now.
"Actually, I think I want one million dollars."
"I don't have that kind of money. But if that's what you want, then you'll get it. It will probably take the rest of my life, but I'll pay up."
Sarah was stunned. Who was this guy? And how come there weren't more like him?
