But before Jon even got to open her mom's bedroom door, she heard someone sniffling. It was coming from Zoe's room.
"Zoe?" Jon asked, walking into her room.
Her sister looked up at her.
"Why are you crying?" Jon asked.
"My friends don't know me anymore."
"They don't know you? What do you mean?"
"I mean they don't recognize me. I've been friends with Athena for almost five years. How could she just forget all that?"
"Who's Athena?" Jon was pretty sure she knew about all Zoe's friends, but she had never heard of one named Athena.
"Athena DeVries. You know ... Goth girl, likes to dress in black dresses, into the occult."
"I didn't know you had any Goth friends," Jon said.
Zoe stood up and pointed at herself. "I'm Goth!" Then she plopped down on her bed again and sniffled some more. "I used to be, anyway."
Jon's eyes went wide. Was it possible that the "wish chain" had something to do with this? From Jon's point-of-view, Zoe had never been Goth, not even close, actually (although, she did have quite a few black T-shirts). She knew that when using the stone, anyone that didn't hear the wishes thought that everything was normal. Maybe it was the same for the chain wishing. Maybe that's why Zoe remembered herself as a Goth girl and Jon didn't.
Truth be told, though, Jon couldn't imagine Zoe as a Goth. It just wasn't her style.
"Listen, I'm going to fix all of this. Okay?" Jon assured her.
Zoe looked up. "Really? How?"
"Just leave it to me."
