The doorbell at Jon's house rung. There was nobody else home at the moment other than Jon, so Jon had to answer it.
"It's me," yelled Karyn.
"Karyn?" he said. "Karyn, what are you doing here?"
"Would you please let me in?"
"Fine." Jon opened the door and let her in. "Now what?" he asked. "Are you planning to help me or something?"
"As a matter of fact, yes," she replied. "Every time I'm about to lend you something things happen and I never get a chance."
"And you're going to apologize for that?"
"Look, Jon, I really am sorry. I meant that literally--whenever I try, something happens. I'm afraid that next time I try my own house will burn down just to keep me from giving you anything. It's like I'm jinxed. So here's what we do instead."
"I'm listening," replied Jon.
"I'm willing to go shopping with you. I can lend you enough money that you can buy at least some things. Just pay me back when the insurance comes in. We can go to the mall together, I'll help you."
Karyn didn't know, of course, Sarah's exact wish even though like all wishes it could still affect her. Nobody other than Sarah could say 'yes' to borrowing clothes. However, this was not borrowing clothes, so Karyn could do it. Jon could then wear the clothes he bought if Sarah did not choose to have him wear something else at the time (since he had to wear what Sarah chooses).
"I can't go to the mall," replied Jon. "I just finished cheerleading practice, I'm only home for a very short time. I have to go out... we have a game tonight and then I have a date with Biff."
"Really? You do realize you're going to piss off Sarah by doing that."
"I expected you to be surprised in a different way, Karyn. I'm a guy. I really would rather not go out with him, but I said yes without thinking, and he is acting nice even though I think he's treating me like a girl."
"But he's always treated you nice... he's always had a crush on you. Ever since you entered puberty." Karyn also didn't know that Sarah had wished only Jon and Sarah would notice Jon's body was girlier. So both Karyn and Biff thought Jon had always been that way.
"Huh? What are you talking about, Karyn? He only started treating me nice just now when he said he liked my legs. And then my body turned into a girl's body."
"That's what puberty is."
"No, I mean my body turned into a girl's body right now."
"What are you talking about, Jon? You have the same figure you've always had."
"I am totally confused, Karyn."
"I am too, but if you're saying you look funny, don't you have a family album somewhere around here?"
"Yeah, Mom keeps it at the top of the closet."
"Well, let's get it out, then."
They got the album out. Jon was shocked to see that every picture of himself looked like a girl. There may or may not have been a male bulge--it's not as that would be obvious in a family album--but Karyn was right. He did always have that figure. But how could he have not noticed it?
