Rebecca motioned for Joseph to sit down as she dialled a number that he knew all too well. “Joanne, how are you dear? No nothing is wrong I just wanted to check something about the bet that you and your brother have going at the moment.” She went on to explain the situation that Joseph had found himself in that morning occasionally turning to look at him.

Joseph sat on the seat across the desk from Rebecca’s. He felt as if he was slowly sinking into it. Now and again he would raise his head at what he was sure was the sound of his sister’s voice laughing down the phone line as Rebecca scribbled something on the pad in front of her.

“Then it's agreed then. I will break the news to the poor boy then. Thank you for your help Joanne I would hate to see all the money that was being raised going to waste as well as my having to call your uncle over this. Yes of course I will tell him to expect you tonight.” Rebecca said as she ended the call.

Joseph sat there wondering what was going on.

“Now Joseph I have spoken to your sister and have found a way to resolve the little problem that we have found ourselves in this morning..” Rebecca told the young man.

“Knowing Jo I don’t think I will like it much,” Joseph said looking up at his boss. He hadn’t heard much of the conversation between her and his sister beyond her laughter.

“Perhaps, perhaps not,” Rebecca said as there was a knock on the door of Rebeccas’s office.
“Good timing. Come in Sara.”

The door to the office opened to show the smiling face of the receptionist that Joseph had spoken to earlier that morning.

“Here is the document you wanted printed Ms Green,” Sara stated trying not to laugh too much at Joseph as she now noticed fully what had caught her eye as Joseph had walked away to his desk that morning.

“I am beginning to think that your talents are wasted on the front desk if you can type that fast Sara,” Rebecca said praising the woman.

“I didn’t need to do that much Ms Green it was only a couple of amendments to the original,” Sara said honestly.

“That as maybe but it was still quick work. You had better get back to your desk before things start to get busy.” Rebecca replied while making a mental note to see if there was a better position to place a talented member of staff.

“Thank you, Ms Green,” Sara said to her boss trying to control the blush that she knew must be on her face by now as she turned to go back to her usual seat.

“Now Joseph as I said between your sister and myself we have come up with a solution to our little fashion problem,” Rebecca told him.

“May I ask what that is Ms. Green?” Joseph asked as politely as he could.

“This will explain it,” Rebecca said handing him the piece of paper that Sara had just delivered.

The Dressed Code Fundraiser

  1. The agreed article of clothing must be worn for a full day.
  2. Any items needed by the wearer to make the item do the job that it was intended to do will be provided by the proposer.
  3. It can only be taken off to be replaced by a new one or to have a shower/ bath.
  4. Items must be agreed on at the start of the week
  5. Bet can only go ahead if it does not violate the office dress code
  6. The wearer must follow the appropriate dress code that would be followed by someone who would normally wear the agreed article of clothing.
  7. If the dress code the fundraiser will come to an end.
  8. All proceeds from the fundraiser are to be donated to a charity to be decided by the wearer's workmates by the end of ../../….
  9. The fundraiser can only be extended if both parties agree to the extension and that all other conditions are met.
  10. The fundraiser starts on ../../…. and will run for seven full days from this date.
  11. A copy of these rules must be agreed on and signed by both parties
  12. A copy of these rules will be kept by an independent third party.

Joseph looked at the document for a moment. It was a copy of the rules of the bet that he and his sister had set out at the beginning of all of this. He looked at Rebecca with an unasked question in his eyes.

“We have a possible new client coming in for a meeting this morning and that is why I can’t give you the time to go home and get changed. However they are very big on Philanthropy, so if we were to formalize this little bet of yours and make it a charity fundraiser it might help us win the contract.” Rebecca explained.

“I see,” Joseph said and from the way he said it Rebecca was sure he didn’t.

“If you agree to the new rules that you hold in your hands then yesterday and today will not count towards the bet. If you make it through the new terms you will get £200 and at the same time raise money for a good cause.” She told him hopefully clearing up the confusion.

“So all I have to do is make it to Sunday and I will get double the money that I was going to get to start with?” He asked.

“Not quite Joseph. Your seven days will start from tomorrow and yesterday and today will only count as practice runs. So this will mean the whole thing will last for another seven days starting tomorrow.” Rebecca informed him hiding a smile.

Joseph sat there for a moment and thought. Two more days for double the money, it was a no-brainer as far as he was concerned.

“Joanne is ok with this?” He asked

“Of course she is that is what we discussed on our call didn’t you hear it.” She informed him.

“To be honest Ms Green I didn’t.” He told her.

“Trust me Joseph she is fine with it. She is helping to raise money for a good cause and in her words, not mine… Gets to teach you a lesson at the same time… but it is up to you.” Rebecca told him

“In that case, where do I sign Ms Green?” He asked. He was sure that he would be able to prove his sister wrong and gain some money at the same time.

If you are sure Joseph. I need to fill in the dates first.” She said as picked up a pen. Two seconds later she had entered today's date for clause 8 and the following day for clause 9.

She then handed the document back to Joseph this time along with a pen. It took him all of a second to sign it.

“I will send out an email in a moment to remind the others in the office as to what is happening and remind them as to the deadline for the suggestion as to where the funds go to.” She said as Joseph stood up.

“I suppose I had better get back to work if there is nothing else, Ms Green,” Joseph said as he straightened his jacket.

“Oh, there is just one thing Joseph,” Rebecca said struggling to hide her grin.

“What is that Ms Green?” He asked.

She reached into her desk drawer and pulled out a sheet of paper. “This is the dress code that you will need to follow as of tomorrow. If you do not manage to do so then everything is over and you do not get any of the money we have been talking about.” She said handing it to him.

Dress Code for Female Employees

Joseph took one look at it and began to wonder what he had got himself into.

“Any problems Joseph?” Rebecca asked seeing the colour drain from Joseph’s face.

“No Problems Ms Green,” Joseph said turning to go back to his temporary desk.

Back inside Rebecca’s office.

“That will teach you to wear the same outfit as me.” She said sitting there with a big grin on her face.
