“Hi, sis long time no hear.” The voice said down the line.
Val wasn’t sure that she could bluff her way through this call she knew that she would have to deal with the former Holly’s now her family but she thought that she would have a little more time obviously not, so she would have chance her luck.
“Hi Sis I didn’t recognize the number when it came up,” Val said.
“I forgot I changed my number last week sorry. So how has it been on the other side of the world?” The voice at the other end of the line asked her.
“More or less the same as back home I suppose,” Val answered calling somewhere other than Korea home for the first time.
“Shame I was hoping you would have all sorts of stories to tell me when you get back in a couple of days.”
“I may not be back so soon. The group is going to do their first gig outside of Korea tomorrow and I thought it would be a great way to end my story with them. I am just waiting for their management to agree.” Val said.
“My sister the globetrotter,” the cheerful voice on the phone said.
“Yeah so I might be another week or so, it depends on their management. They are going to let me know this morning.” Val told the young voice.
“This morning? It’s almost midnight.”
“Here it is almost 9 in the morning. I had better go and get ready for my meeting to find out what is happening,” Val said using the conversation that she was about to have with G-Bear as a way of finishing the call.
“Good luck Sis.” The young voice as they ended the call.
Val took a deep breath realizing that she had managed to get through the conversation but she needed to do a little more research before she next spoke to her new family. She knew that she would know everything about the Glover’s soon enough but the phone call from her new younger sister had made things a little more urgent. What would she do if her new mother called her?
Val soon found some information that she wrote down.
Valerie Marie Glover:
Place of birth: Brighton, East Sussex, UK
Next of Kin:
Mother – Gloria Glover - Widow
Sister - Carolyn Glover – Three years younger.
So it had been Carolyn who had called her at least she now had a name to put to the voice from the earlier call, Val thought. It seemed that in Val’s new life, she had shared a lot of her life on the web. On her Facebook page, she found a picture of her and Carolyn on a night out. Well, at least that was what the caption on the picture told her.
My Little Sister is almost all grown up.
The image is a close-up shot of the two women standing against a bright, shiny, textured, deep pink wall in a night an unknown nightclub. Val knew if she kept looking she would find the name of it.
She could see herself as she looked now on the left has long, light blonde hair styled in loose waves. Her makeup is noticeably done with a focus on emphasizing her eyes and giving a fresh-faced appearance. She was wearing a silver sequined top or dress she a big cheerful bright smile on her face.
On her right stood a woman with shoulder-length dark brown hair styled neatly. Her makeup was also noticeable, with a focus on highlighting her eyes and providing a glossy appearance to her lips. She was wearing a red dress with a small white floral print. She is wearing a gold necklace with a small pendant. Her expression is warm and friendly much the same as Val’s.
“Nice to meet you Carolyn,” Val said out loud.
Val was about to have a look at her Sisters’ page when there was a knock on her room door.
“Ms Glover, G-Bear wishes to talk to you.” The heavily accented voice said from the other side of the door.
“I will be right there.” Came Val’s reply.
I guess my research on my family tree will need to wait. She knew that all she needed to do was wait and try to avoid speaking to her family until she and Hyun-Hee had finished doing what they had to do. Once their transaction was complete she would know all she needed to know. In the meantime, she grabbed her digital recorder like any good journalist would, headed out of her room, and followed the young man to her meeting with G-Bear.
