Keeping up with him would be really hard on base. He was not even the most annoying to deal with. Noel and Remi were identical twins. They were the worst. They both hated him. The feeling was mutual. The twins were also hybrids. However, it was a the case that they had a Radiant One as a mother. They would wrinkle their nose at him and tell him he stank. Remi and Noel did not smell pleasant to him either. It was a sickly sweet smell. They had the dream of following in the footsteps of their pilot parents. Neither of them were violent, but there were other ways to spread their vitriol during the month long boot camp. Henri would have preferred fighting it out. Then it would be easy to see who the better boy was. Henri was very confident that it would be him. The constant mocking and arrogant tone they took with him put Henri on the edge of punching them at the end of every single encounter. It was rough. The others in his squad were not better. Calvin was a class clown. Making jokes and trying to get attention by saying stupid things. Henri would not mind it, but they got into trouble.
Adam was a major slacker. It was discovered immediately. There was no chore that he would not try to weasel out of. There was no call time that he would not be late for if not for the others dragging him places. While they did not usually get to Calvin in time to stop him from fucking up, being made to do extra chores or exercise while the drill sergeant screamed at was something they disliked. After the first week, they made sure he got where he needed to be. Guy was an orphan. He had lost his family to a Z'lanthrax attack. He did not speak to anyone except to the drill sergeants. That was because he had to. Otherwise, he was silent. It was clear to Henri that Guy was scared of him. The boy flinched whenever he got close. To be fair to him, he also would distance himself from Noel and Remi. Calvin was somehow the only one who the boy could tolerate being near. Calvin was a genuinely good guy. He was just kind of a dick at times. He never tried to hurt anyone with jokes and, if he did go too far, he would apologize. His pranks could be annoying though. On the whole, Henri respected.
Guy and Calvin were a natural pairing for the piloting program when the boot camp was over. It was then time for the piloting program. Both the twins moved themselves off to the side. It was clear that they wanted to be together. It just made sense that twins would work well together. However, that left Henri to deal with the slacker Adam to deal with. Then they were allowed to get in their Shine simulator room. While in training, all the prospective Glowies wore the dark tan training mech suit. It was not comfortable. Not at all. These were the standard set and only had the word "Testing" on the chest. They also did not have sleeves or pant legs either. It all was part of their hazing ritual. None of his squad mates had the storied lineage Fabien had, so it was hard on everyone except him. Henri was not the oldest member of their squad but he was the third tallest. They had to attempt synchronizing in pairs to pilot. Pairing up was not going to be easy here. None of his squad mates even liked him all that much. Adam and Calvin only put up with him because they themselves were so weird.
