Back inside Jon’s bedroom
Jon sat there trying to work out how he could get ahead of the blue men and their bosses. Then it hit him, so far he had been trying to workout who they had changed only to get distracted by the next person he had found had been changed. He should concentrate on one person, sure this would allow the opposition the chance to change other people in whatever way they wanted but if he chose the right person he might just be able to work out why they had been changed in the first place.
Everybody had to have been changed for a reason if he could figure that out he would be one step closer to defeating the blue men and their bosses. He should let Tina know what he was going to do but he hadn’t heard from her for hours. She had been acting strangely today ever since that blue man had tried to grab her. Had something happened? He wasn’t sure but he should let her know shouldn’t he?
There had to be someone he could watch from a distance who wouldn’t notice him doing so. There was only one person he could think of his “new” mother Melissa. She would be living in the same house as he was so that should make it easier he thought. All he had to do was pretend to be ill tomorrow that way he could keep an eye on her for the whole day and see if she did anything that would help him work out what was going on besides with everything that had been going on he could do with a day off school
.
This wouldn’t be the first time that he had pretended to be ill to avoid school and his mom usually couldn’t tell if he was faking it or not. If she could she never said anything about it. If Melissa was taking her place she should be as easy to fool as his mom was.
In a different street not too far away.
Tina sat in her room trying to work out if she should let Jon know that her mom was back or not. Her mom Athena Black, not the imposter that had been there for the last few days. Every time she thought about her mom a smile came to her face. She was just so pleased to have her back the voice that she had heard coming from the blue man the other night had kept its word by returning her. All they had asked her to do was to let them know what Jon was doing. They wouldn’t do anything to hurt them, would they?
She hadn’t seen anyone get hurt by what these people were doing according to Jon they just changed people, didn’t they? That didn’t hurt anyone, did it? So some people ended up living different lives than before. Who was to say they didn’t end up living netter lives than before? Maybe that’s why they changed people to give them better lives. Yeah, that was it, she was sure They couldn’t be bad people could they after all they had given her, her mom back, and bad people wouldn’t do that.
Back across town Geraldine (Gerri) Gutfreund was annoyed at her mom she had liked her old school. She had made friends there but once again her mothers job came first. She also wished that someone else was taking out the garbage tonight, it was heavy. It was not like she played football like those boys who had been shouting after her on her way back from school this afternoon. She didn’t tell anyone about it her mother would have just overreacted as usual. She sometimes thought that her mother had forgotten what it was like to be her or her sisters age as it had been so long.
The former Gary Meadows walked back inside the house that he had once owned to avoid the woman that was now his mother and prepare for school the next day.
