Jon ran outside and looked around desperately for the rock or ray gun. But they were no where to be seen. Three of the boys that had gathered around Sarah and Jon when they were wrestling were playing catch in the street. He called out to them.
"Hey! you guys!" The boys turned. They looked no older than 11 or 12. One of them made Whooping sounds and another did a cat call whistle. Jon's face turned red with embarrassment.
Sarah ran up behind him wearing an equally revealing bedding cover. "Oh that's just not right." she said when she saw who was making the whistles.
"eh... that's public schools for ya." muttered Jon.
"HEY! Twerps! Shut up for a moment and listen to me." Yelled Sarah.
"Yeah, what's in it for us" said one kid wearing a red baseball cap.
Sarah glared at him and then turned to the 3 of them as a whole and said "We're looking for something."
"2 Something's actually" pipped in Jon.
"Yea, two somethings." agreed Sarah, "We dropped them when we came out earlier. We were hoping you three may have seen where they went. One's a small water pistol, that looks kinda like a futuristic ray gun and the other is a rock, well a Stone really..."
The kid in the red cap motioned to the other two and they went into a huddle. Jon rolled his eyes and said "Look, did you see it or didn't you?" The kid in the cap raised a finger, obviously telling them to wait.
After what seemed like forever standing outside with only loose fitting covers to protect them from the slight breeze, the kids finally broke up the huddle.
The kid in the red cap spoke up. It seemed like he was their designated leader. "Maybe we saw them, and maybe we didn't"
"Oh god!" said Jon rolling his eyes.
Sara knelt down a little so they were eye to eye. "What'll it take for you to have seen them?"
The kid acted like he was in deep contemplation "hmm.... let's see... how about... you're boobies!"
Sarah smiled, she kind of expected that one and she opened up her cover and revealed her watermellon rack for about 5 seconds then closed it. "There. Now where are they?"
The kids stood flabergasted. The kid in the red cap suddenly couldn't make complete sentences. "That... way" he pointed down the street where the rest of the kids could be seen at a distance walking to where ever they were going before Sarah and Jon distracted them earlier.
"Just Great..." said Jon and Sarah in unison.
