Marveling at the sheer size and design took the breath of the boys away. They would be the ones piloting them. For the Bottoms, they would be the ones interfacing with those massive machines to put their consciousness in. It was a crazy thought. They would become the Shine. For the Tops, they would be the one operating the mecha in combat and deployment. They would take control and use these giant machines to fight for humanity. "As you know, the Radiant Ones are the ones who have given us the Shines. Their technology is advanced to the point we would need centuries to get it on our own." the lead scientist said. The head instructor scoffed. "These Shines are as easy for them to make as tanks and fighter jets are for us humans. They're just stingy and only gave us 4." he grumbled out loud. That information was new. Each team having their own personal Shine would be amazing. Having to rotate when on call did not bother Kazuki all that much however. They were all identical. Learning the many controls and functions of one Shine would mean learning how to pilot them all.
Only the caliber of the pilots would lead to differences. Just like with the synchronization simulations, the Shines responded to the pulses of both the pilots. A Black Pulse of 100 made the Shine fire on all cylinders and every tool and gadget would be ready to work on a moment's notice. A White Pulse let the Top operate the Shine near intuitively. There would not be a second between the Top thinking of an action and the action happening. That was why it was important to not only be able to generate high pulses yourself, but also mesh well with your partner. A drastic mismatch would cause problems in a deployment scenario. You needed to add up to 102 to turn the thing on, but it was better if they were both at 51 than if one was at 90 and the other was at 12. You could put the greatest racecar driver in a bumper car and, while they might do surprisingly well with what they have, they won't win on the racetrack. On the flip side, the greatest racecar ever made would just be wasted with a small toddler at their wheel. Radiant Ones put out 100's in both pulses at once. Male hybrids, one.
With that being the case, it was important for fully human pilots to do the best they could during training to do the best they could in increasing their pulses before having it set by the serum. Kazuki and Kiseki had both taken the serums they had chosen. He did not know which serum Kiseki had. As a Switch, it was totally acceptable to both Top and Bottom inside of the cockpit. Kazuki had proven his capability to do so during the 2 stages of the recruitment process. Kazuki was registered as a Switch with a preference towards Topping. Kiseki was registered as a Switch with a preference towards Bottoming. They still would have to work out what roles they wanted and if they actually wanted to switch roles from time to time. That could wait until they were actually on call together. It would be in 2 days. The break would give Kazuki a bit to think. It was a big chance to decide how he wanted to approach that really important conversation. Kiseki certainly was not giving signs that he was open to very clear dialogue. Kazuki had come this far. He was not just going to let someone fuck it up.
