When Jon opened his eyes, he saw Karyn sitting across from him, same as before, but they had shifted to a different part of the food court. But something was wrong. Karyn was wearing a loose T-shirt with the logo of a heavy metal band on it, nothing that Sarah would be caught dead in. She was looking at him, her eyes wide. He then noticed something off about himself. His stomach was a bit exposed and there was something around his chest, under his shirt…no his sweatshirt. He looked down. His legs were encased in a pair of black leggings. He had a cropped gray sweatshirt up top. He pulled at the neck to look under it and found a light blue push-up bra.
“Jon!” Karyn hissed. Jon let go of his sweatshirt and looked up at her. “You can’t do that in public. Sorry, but you’re Sarah McMillan and I’m Biff Meadows.”
“Karyn-”
“Biff.” Karyn interrupted him, “Everyone sees us as Biff and Sarah. We’d better start using their names.” Jon stopped for a moment to reflect. He knew she was right.
“Biff,” Jon emphasized, “What happened? This wasn’t what you wished for.”
“Yes it was. I realized my mistake right about the time that the wish activated. I wished for you and I to switch with Sarah and Biff. I should have wished for you and I to switch with Biff and Sarah.”
“Well we can just fix it with another wish.” Jon looked around and started to panic. “Wait, where’s the stone?!”
“Check your purse.” Karyn suggested. Jon turned and checked his chair. He grabbed at the gold chain attached to the white purse, set it on the table and opened it. Inside he found some of Sarah’s personal belongings. He moved aside a tube of lip gloss and found the stone. “So what are you going to wish for?” Karyn asked.
“I was thinking, just a swap between the two of us. Keep it simple.” He held the stone. “I wish that Karyn and I would swap lives for the remainder of our previous wish.” Nothing. “Damn it!”
“Jon, I just had a thought. I hope that didn’t count as one of your 3 wishes for the week.” Jon’s face drained. He’d almost forgotten about the part of the wish that he specifically requested. “Well with any luck, since it wasn’t granted, you should be fine.”
“That’s great and all, but I don’t want to be Sarah.” Jon replied a bit louder than he had intended.
“Calm down babe.” Karyn said, trying to get into character so as to not to turn this into a scene, “Look, it’s just for a week. I think you can survive being a girl for that long.” Jon slumped in his chair looking upset and defeated. After a moment, he sat back up.
“I guess inheriting her life means I must have inherited her bladder.” Jon got up to leave.
“Don’t forget your purse.” Karyn said, grabbing it off of the table and offering it to him. He rolled his eyes at the thought of having to carry one around now, but took it and put it over his shoulder. Karyn got up close to him and whispered in his ear, “Also don’t forget that you have to use the women’s restroom now too.”
Jon rolled his eyes and hurried off to the restroom. As he walked, he tried not to take stock of how his clothing felt. The hug from the leggings he wore, the exposure of his midriff from the cropped sweatshirt, the bra underneath, he was extremely aware of all of them. But it was all eclipsed by the nervousness he felt as he walked into the women’s restroom. He walked past a few women who didn’t give him a second glance. He looked around inside and found an open stall at the far end of the restroom. Jon went in, shutting and locking the door behind him. Trying not to look down as he did it, he pulled down his leggings and panties and sat down on the toilet. As he relieved himself, he wondered how he’d gotten himself into this mess.
After he finished, as he went to pull his leggings up, his finger slipped and he ended up with just the panties. He instinctively looked down and was met with a light blue that matches his bra. Cursing himself for looking, he finished pulling up the panties. They were a cheeky cut that was quite soft, with a lace border around the edges. As he got them up, he noticed that they were actually fairly comfortable and not too snug. Pulling his leggings up, he was surprised at how high the waistband was, going up to sit on his hip bone. He flushed and left to wash his hands.
Jon stood at the sink, trying not to look at anyone else. The constant reminder that he was surrounded by women in a public restroom kept him on edge. He ran his hands under the water, just wanting this experience to be over with. At one point he looked up, and a young woman stared back at him. But it wasn’t just any woman; it was Sarah McMillan. And it wasn’t Sarah, it was a mirror. She looked at him with the same look of disbelief that he felt on his face. He turned his head back and forth, watching her mirror his movements. He looked down at his clothing to see how they fit his body and then looked back up to see how it compared to her’s.
It was at that point that Jon saw the makeup on Sarah's face. He became aware of the coating on his face as well, nothing too much, but he sure wanted to be able to see his own face right about now. As he was turning his head back and forth, Jon felt a tugging at his earlobes. He lifted his hands up to find earrings attached to both ears. Looking back at his reflection he saw that they were small, simple gold colored hoops. His ears weren't even pierced before the wish, but now he had a new awareness focused on his ears. As much as he wanted to continue this experience, he knew that he shouldn’t in public. He dried his hands off and headed back to Karyn.
