Jon was so frozen in shock he didn't even struggle as the massive girl opened his box and removed the plastic bindings that had been holding him in place.
"Welcome to your new home Barbie! We're gonna have lots of fun together." The girl said, picking him up in a single gigantic hand.
Wait..this is still Sarah's house!, Jon realized, looking around the room. But it was somewhat different than the last time he'd seen it. Shreds of wrapping paper, boxes, and various toys were all over the place, as well as swarms of girls that looked between five and seven years old.
A birthday party., He realized suddenly. I must be one of the gifts. But how could this happen? Things weren't like this after I made the wish.
"Sharon, play with your dolls later. It's time for the birthday cake!" Jon recognized this as the second voice, which he could now see came from a middle aged blonde woman, the only adult present.
"Okay mommy!" The girl, also blonde, replied. "Sorry Barbie, but I'll have to play with you later. Go play with your sisters!"
Sisters?, Jon thought as she carried him to three identical pink boxes, one of which must have held him a few moments ago. Laying below them were two identical miniature women that Jon recognized immediately. After all, he looked just like them now.
"Barbie, this is Barbie and Barbie." The girl informed him, gesturing to the two tiny blonde women with the smiles frozen on their faces. "Be nice with each other while I'm gone" She instructed as she sat him down beside them.
Jon couldn't contain himself any longer, and sharply whispered "What's going on?" to the two dolls/women beside him. Thankfully, the girl didn't notice. The smiles remained frozen, however, and he got no response.
"Sharon, don't you want to blow out the candles?" The adult (apparently her mother) asked from what must have been the dining room.
"Coming!" The girl replied, scampering off. The other children followed her, and suddenly the two women beside Jon became animated.
"Just what do you think you're doing?" Asked the one on his right. She was wearing a sharp pink business suit with an ultra short skirt and had her hair done up in a bright blonde bun, but otherwise was identical to Jon.
"She could have heard you!" Added the one to his left. This one was dressed in a bright pink and white cheerleading uniform and had her hair in a long blonde pony tail, but again was physically identical to Jon and the other doll/woman.
"Sorry." Jon replied, suddenly sheepish. "I'm just glad to see you two. Things are getting really weird. What's going on?"
The girl to his left in the cheerleading uniform answered him. Sarah. She must be Sarah., he thought. "You remember how the rock changes reality so that everyone else thinks the wishes are normal? Apparently this was the only way it could figure out to justify three identical, foot tall women. See?" She pointed to some text on the back of the nearest box.
Cheerleader Barbie 2000, the box proclaimed in bold golden text, and under that:
Animated with the miracles of the digital age, state of the art nanotechnology and AI allow this doll to move, look, learn, and react naturally to any action. Sure to keep your kids entertained for hours.
And in fine print under that:
Aberrant behaviour may occur prior to acclimatization to surroundings. Mattel claims no liability for accidents, damages, or rebellion caused by said behaviour. If aberrations persist, contact your local toy store or the nearest Mattel Nanotech office for repair and other services.
"Oh my God." Jon exclaimed in a high, feminine voice, stunned. He looked down, seeing Sarah's enhanced body clad in a sparkly pink ball gown. "I guess...I guess that explains a few things though. But wait...how do you know about the rock changing reality, Sarah?" He turned suddenly.
Sarah's face suddenly contorted in anger. "I'm not Sarah. She's Sarah." She exclaimed, pointing to the doll/woman in the pink business suit. The doll that was apparently Sarah laughed.
"Oh. Er..sorry..uh, Karyn? It's just with the cheerleading uniform and all I thought..."
"I know what you thought. It's bad enough being turned into a living barbie doll without you mistaking me for that bitch."
"Bitch?! Hey!" The doll that was apparently Sarah slapped the doll that was apparently Karyn.
"Not this again! Stop it, both of you!"
Surprisingly, they did, although Sarah did so begrudgingly.
"Sorry Jon." Now it was Karyn's turn to be embarassed. "This whole situation just has us really stressed out I guess."
"I know. Me too. But we have to stick together if we're going to find the rock and figure a way-" His speech was interrupted by the sound of childish giggling and a stampede of footsteps, as the girl that must have been Sarah's little sister led the group of children back into the living room.
"Freeze!" Both Karyn and Sarah warned him simultaneously as they proceeded to move back into their original positions with their empty smiles back on their faces. Jon followed suit, trying to look as doll-like as possible, but inside, he was afraid.
