Karyn poured the contents from two containers into a spray bottle. Who knew a 1/2 cup vinegar and quarter cup baking soda into a half gallon of water could clean almost anything? She shook the bottle up and mixed the ingredients.
It had been a few days since she last saw Jon, but she had been so busy! The school had put her into what they were calling an ‘accelerated program.’ The only problem was, she didn’t know what she was accelerating to. Her argument at the Career Center with Dr. Cox about Jon was a knock-down drag out affair behind closed doors, and ended with Karyn storming out, the manilla envelope he handed her and its contents shredded on the floor. Now, they wouldn’t stop pestering her about meeting a ‘mentor.’ No way was she going to buy into this junk.
Karyn just hoped all this new classwork would mean better college prospects. The new schedule seemed like the subjects that college recruiters would fawn over; Chemistry, Physics, French. Even the etiquette courses, while not directly translatable to educational success, would help her in everyday life.
She sprayed down the bathroom mirror and wiped in a counter-clockwise motion. The perception course was the strangest one. At it’s core she understood what it was all about. Learning to be more attuned to the details was a noble goal, but in reality, after the first few days, all it was doing was making her notice how dirty everything was. The school, her house, her car, covered in dust! Dirt, grime, très désordonné. How had she not noticed before? Moins on en sait, mieux on se porte, she mused to herself, nodded her head, and adjusted the white lace gloves she was wearing.
