Window down, lit cigarette in acryliced hand, the car was cruising down the back roads of the city. Karyn knew she could be safe at her house. Despite being around those guys all day, they had never asked where she lived. In the passenger seat, Athena was chanting something under her breath while holding the pendant. Whatever she had done to the pendant since last night, Karyn realized Athena could see the changes the stone had made. Was there anything super different about herself.
She glanced in the rearview mirror. Sure, her hair and makeup was an absolute mess because of Roy. But that was just the life she lead. Athena laughed, "You can't even imagine. I'll let you know when we arrive, but let's just say it's pretty wild." Her face turned grim all of a sudden, "There is something big going on Karyn. Something that is twisting these wishes to get what it wants. We have to stop it."
"We will," Karyn said, "This stone is real, and if it's real it had to come from somewhere. Whatever gave this stone so much power over reality, only gave it a portion of the magic available. So if we can find the source, we'll find the more powerful entity and get it to reverse these wishes. And I can be very persuasive."
"How can you be so sure?" Athena looked at Karyn, puzzled.
They were on the outskirts now, and Karyn looked out at the city skyline. She looked at the pink glow of the lights, Jon panting in the backseat while rubbing Biff's crotch. She noticed her cigarette was down to a snub, and flicked it out the window. She looked at Athena. "Because it's always a man in charge. And that's exactly what a man would do."
