"So you still remember the stone even after the wishes," Athena asks from the passenger seat. Karyn was driving Athena around the town, while Athena had some sort of tome open in her lap. Athena seemed like this a really urgent matter.
Karyn took her cigarette from her mouth, "Yeah I still remember everything as far as I can think. Like, Jon was pretty careful with the wishes so I don't think anything really changed too much. The biggest change was my wish for money and Jessie's."
"What about Jessie's?" Athena asks, pulling out a small pendant from her pocket.
"Well it actually wasn't very popular before the wish, but it seems like now everyone girl in town goes there."
Athena nods. "Well that makes sense, I always remember it as the most popular place in town. Although, now that I think about it, I can't think of when it started..."
Karyn's phone keeps buzzing in her handbag. This time of night must be her most popular time for clients. "Does that mean the wish doesn't rewrite everything?"
"It really should," Athena starts tracing finger across the pendant's face "A wish on a wishing rock should account for everything. This variety seems to be missing things. Perhaps there is some sort of clause on it that isn't in my book."
"A clause?"
"Yeah. According to these books, stones can be sort of magically programmed to have certain requirements or amendments made to the owners wish. And this," Athena holds up the pendant, "Should be able to trace down anything changed in our reality."
As soon as she holds up the pendant, it begins to play a song.
"Is that Barbie Girl by Aqua?" Karyn asks. Athena frowns "Uhh yeah I think so. That must be one of it's triggers to notice disturbances, and it's picking up your changes. Now if we can drive around, we can work what changes have appeared that the stone is hiding from us."
They continue driving, but the pendant gives off no other signs of changes. They sit in silence, listening to the quiet nightlife of the town from the open windows of the car, coupled with the buzzing on Karyn's phone.
After 20 minutes, the pendant eventually comes to life, this time singing Ariana Grande. "That's Jon's sister Zoe! She must've been changed aswell! I wonder what is different?" Zoe is wandering along the street in her latex night club outfit, texting on her phone.
Athena nods "Yeah, we used to be friends when we were younger, but she's fallen into a different crowd now. We should follow her."
"Totally," Karyn pulls the car into the sidewalk. "We should follow on foot, I think she's headed to The Spiked Pit."
