When Jon stirred back to consciousness, he found himself back in the familiar confines of Mrs. Black's bedroom—or rather, his bedroom now. The scent of Samantha's perfume lingering in the air, and once again, he was clad in the familiar businesswoman's suit, the tailored fabric reminding him of the bizarre turn his life had taken in only the span of a day.
"Looks like I have Mrs. Black's... I mean, my old job back..." Jon muttered to himself, still reeling from the absurdity of his situation. Jon's thoughts were racing a mile a minute,
How am I supposed to snag that stone back? And Karyn... Should I even clue her in on what went down? Or what about Karyn's dad... I mean, Tod, my husband now? God I'm married to a man now... that's so weird to think about. Can I really go through the rest of my life as a woman? A goddamn MILF even? Well Leo did say he wanted to make sure the subject still felt like themselves but had everything they needed to live their new life.....
New life...
I just had to jinx myself by saying this better not be my new life earlier...
His thoughts were interrupted by his cellphone suddenly ringing, jolting him back to reality. With a resigned sigh, he answered, mustering up surprising professionalism. "Hello, Samantha speaking."
"Adjusting well are we Samantha? Ya know you wear that suit nicely" came Leo's smug voice from the other end.
"Oh, spare me the compliments," he retorted, his voice tinged with irritation. "I've had enough of your witty remarks for one day."
Leo chuckled, unfazed by Jon's agitated demeanor. "Touchy, touchy. But hey, at least you've got style, you really do wear that better than the original Mrs. Black ever did."
"Ugh, enough of this. What do you want, Leo?" Jon snapped, his patience wearing thin.
"I just wanted to give you a heads up that I bumped you back up to Manager instead of your old secretary gig. But mainly there's something else you should know. Don't bother spilling the beans to Karyn or anyone else about who you used to be or my machine. Trust me, it's not gonna go down well. Save yourself the trouble and just keep it between us," Leo explained, his tone dripping with an unsettling mixture of amusement and warning.
A shiver ran down Jon's spine at Leo's words. What did he even mean by that? He didn't think he wanted to know. "Alright, fine, Leo. Is that all?" Jon retorted.
"Is that all? Aw come on, Samantha, you might not hear from me for a while since you're no longer my assistant," Leo teased.
"Ugh, whatever, Leo. You know I didn't mean anything by that... And I told you already its Mrs. Black to you!"
"Sounds like you're adapting to your new role quite well Mrs. Black," Leo mewed coyly.
".... I gotta go take care of dinner..." Jon muttered as his cheeks turned a rosy color, hanging up the phone in exasperation.
Sighing heavily, Jon glanced around the room, noticing the subtle changes—a touch of luxury here, a hint of opulence there, a sleek cleanliness that hadn't been there before, everything just felt more... expensive; likely due to the promotion he'd received thanks to Leonard. Jon's stomach churned at the thought of feeling gratitude towards Leo after everything he had done to him.
His thoughts were interrupted by the grumble of his stomach. "Better take care of dinner for my family... I mean, Mrs. Black's family... God, this is weird," Jon thought to himself, the weight of his new reality settling in like an unwelcome guest.
