In the time it had taken Lauren to get to Lonna’s condo, Lonna had left the school grounds after taking time to thank Mr Jones for his kind words. It had been the longest conversation that the two had had in all the time they had known each other even if he didn’t know it was the same person that he had walked past in the corridors many times before including just last week. Today he had been kind to her and it had helped her deal with what she had to do now.
She had started her walk to the Rodriguez house to meet her mother. It had been so long since she had called anyone's mom. She had lost her own when she was only six years old. She was not sure how she would react when she met Mrs Rodriguez. She had been raised by her aunt. The same aunt that Lauren was getting ready to meet at that moment. She wished Lauren well, she remembered her aunt being strict with her as she grew up. She thought that must have been where she got it from herself.
As she continued her walk to her new home. Home well that was what it was for tonight anyway. When she got there she could continue her research on this stone that had left her and Ms Rodriguez in this mess in the first place. She realized that she no longer blamed Lauren for the situation that they now found themselves in. In some small part, she was equally to blame as the two of them had been arguing again. They were always doing that. This was the reason that Mary had split them apart. Lauren had been moved to another class or was that her now in an attempt to stop them from arguing anymore? They still did now and again when they met up not that would happen that often anymore.
Lonna thought about that for a moment this would make it harder for them to work out how they could fix things. She reached into her pocket for her, no Laurens’ phone to send her a message that they would need to sort something out to get past that issue. Try as she might she could not remember her old number, the phone that Lauren now had possession of. Like most people these days Lonna did not know her own number she looked it up when she needed it and of course, Laurens’ phone did not have her teacher's number in it. This would now have to wait till tomorrow to sort out. At that moment she reached the front door of the Rodriguez house.
She entered the building cautiously, still unsure of how Mrs Rodriguez would react to her. “Is that you honey?” A voice called from the kitchen. Not sure of how to respond to the question she didn’t reply. The voice called out again only this time a little louder. “Is that you Lonna?” Without even thinking Lonna replied, “Yes it's me.” “Oh good come and give me a hand will you?” Regretting answering to her name Lonna headed towards the sound of the voice. She thought that this must be Mrs Rodriguez her new mother. Taking a deep breath Lonna pushed open the door from behind which the voice was coming to meet its owner face to face for the first time.
