Lonna had made it to the end of the day almost. She had asked Ms Taylor if she could leave early so that she could pass the note that Lauren had given to Coach Cotton to allow her to meet Lauren in what had been her classroom. Jen Taylor being the kind sole that she always was, the one the kids loved her for had no problem in doing so. Lonna had always thought that Jen was a soft touch but after being in one of the lessons she was able to see how her teaching technique worked. She was kind but firm as one as no one misbehaved, which no one ever did. Lonna soon saw firsthand why Jen Taylor had won the best teacher award that was given out each year at graduation.
Lonna was also able to see Mary Cotton’s harsher side. When she spoke to Lonna in the staff room, Lonna could never work out how she had become a sports coach in the first place. The only outward sign of her chosen path was how athletic she looked. However when she reached the gym Coach Cotton as she now was to Lonna almost demanded to know why she was out of class. She only begrudgingly agreed to the request on the note that was presented to her. The whole exchange with Coach Cotton had left Lonna feeling rattled. So much so she had taken a moment to regain her composure in the nearby bathroom. She did not want Lauren to see that she had any problems handling the day that she had been made to suffer due to the incident.
Laurens’ afternoon had not been too bad. She usually hated Mondays but this was no ordinary Monday. She had spent the afternoon since leaving the bathroom dealing with a double lesson with the seniors of 6B. Double Chemistry was no one's favorite class except perhaps for the teacher and that afternoon that was her. During the day she had developed a new operation for the subject. Perhaps she might take it up if, no when she got back to her old life.
She had enjoyed the feelings of power she had during that day over her old schoolmates. Lauren had noticed how the teachers acted towards each other was very different than the way they treated the students. She knew there would be differences but some of the strictest teachers in the school were downright friendly towards her. This was something that had taken her back a little at first but over the day she had gotten used to it.
Her last lesson of the day had just finished so she grabbed herself a coffee from the machine near her classroom and sat down to get ready to mark some papers while waiting for Lonna to arrive. She knew that Lonna would not be there for the bell that had signaled the next set of lessons around the school she would need to speak to Mary Cotton first, what she would have given to be a fly on the wall during that exchange. Mary Cotton was not a teacher to let any student skip her lesson without a good reason. Lonna had been much the same when she had been a teacher. The two of them coming face to face would have been interesting, to say the least.
A few minutes later there was a knock on the classroom door which signed Lonnas’ arrival. This would have been the first time since that morning and the fire drill. Lauren was only teaching that class due to its regular teacher being off ill, otherwise, Lonna and she would not have been in a lesson together not since the big argument that they had gotten into the year before. Lauren was taking some joy in making Lonna wait a short time. There was a second knock at the door to which Lauren answered with a smile on her face that no one would know was there but her, “Come in Ms Tran”
