Karyn thought to herself, "I can't panic. I have to do something... I need to get the stone from Sarah! If I can I can help Jon somehow...."
Karyn got her courage together, stood up, and ran after Sarah, who was walking away and had her back turned. Sarah stopped and turned around to see what was happening, but it was too late as Karyn tackled Sarah, threw her jacket over Sarah's face, and knocked her to the ground. Sarah tried to say something, but could only make a muffled groan.
Karyn hit Sarah's hand against the side of the door and she dropped the stone.
Karyn picked it up. "I wish Sarah would obey my commands until I tell her to stop. Now, Sarah, go sit down on that bed and don't yell out or try to fight me."
Sarah stopped struggling. Karyn took her jacket back and smoothed it out as Sarah walked over to the bed and sat down.
"What did you do?" There was some fear in Sarah's voice, but she couldn't yell. "You were frozen. It couldn't wear off."
"You're such a ditz, Sarah. You have no idea how to use the stone. You see, when you make a wish, it changes reality so that it was already like that. Now, that's usually permanent. If you change someone's sex, they were that sex all along. If they were that sex all along, there's no reason they'd suddenly change again. If you make your nails blue, that's because you painted them, and if you painted them, they'd stay that way until the paint is removed.
"But when you made me frozen, the reason I was frozen was that I was afraid of you and what you could do. That isn't permanent. I just needed to stop being afraid and stand up for myself. It's like wishing to heat a cup of coffee and then letting it get cold. It didn't get cold because wishes wear off, it got cold because normal hot coffee does that.
"Now go home and forget about the stone."
Sarah got up and left the room, and Karyn finally had a chance to think about what happened and how to fix it. She looked around the room; Jon was now inside her, and there was no teenage Jon to have a room any more....
