(Note to pakkwiman: although this does fix the mistake you noticed, I posted it to fix a certain second mistake I also made.)
"Oh, hello, Edward," said 'Vanessa', without missing a beat. "I was just having a private girl to girl talk with our daughter."
"That's what I meant to talk to you about. Her grades have been slipping..."
"She got dumped by her boyfriend," said Karyn. "It's been bothering her."
"She ought to learn to live with it. It's not like there aren't guys after her all the time. Anyway, I guess we should come back now... it's getting dark. I just wish Sarah and I had, oh, another hour to talk privately."
The entirely non-accidental wish took effect. The world turned red, just like in that old TV show, and everything stopped moving, except 'Vanessa' and 'Sarah'.
"Whew," said Sarah. "Quick thinking!"
"I just hope I get this right," said Karyn. "I wish that Edward's last name is Orr, and my maiden name is McMillan, and I'm not married to him. I wish that he's married to my sister Alyssa, and my child Fred is now theirs. I wish that I'm living separately from Alyssa as a single mother, but a rich one who can live in comfort like Alyssa."
They reappeared in a nicely furnished living room with a widescreen TV, all new furniture, and an expensive-looking chandelier on the ceiling. Things were still red.
"What was that about the last name?" asked Sarah.
"I made myself Vanessa McMillan. If I just change who he's married to, that'll change my last name and reverse the wish. We can't do that, right?"
"Hmm," said Sarah.
"Well, I guess that's that," said 'Vanessa'. "The real Sarah's family is back together, all that's changed is her mother's name. And I'm Vanessa, you're Sarah, and we're living here. This just shaved 20 years off my life, but I can always wish someone discovers a youth serum... but are you going to be okay, Jon?"
"I don't know," said Jon. "Edward isn't my father any more... but he's still my uncle. And Alyssa's my aunt. And Fred's my cousin. I've still got Sarah's family, just not as closely. We're at least going to meet them at holidays and stuff. And I'm still Sarah, with Sarah's school life. I have to act like her..."
"No you don't, dear! We can change that. We can use a wish, or you can just act nicely . People will think Sarah's getting soft, but what do we care? Now, I wish that the stone is in Sarah's pocketbook and that we're at the table eating dinner." The stone flew out of her hands and landed, miraculously, in Sarah's pocketbook, which was only open an inch. Then Vanessa and Sarah disappeared and reappeared at the table eating. "After that you'd better look over your school stuff and think about tomorrow. It'll be your first day at school as Sarah...."
