'Sarah' pouted. "Nothing happened!"
"Did you expect her to pop up here in the park?" asked the new Vanessa. "She must have her own life, her own place to live. So she must be somewhere else where we can't see her."
"Yeah," said 'Sarah'. "But we might be able to see her without leaving here at all."
"And how do we do that?" asked 'Vanessa'.
'Sarah' didn't like how Karyn, er, 'Vanessa' was sounding bitchy. Then again, she sounded whiny like the original Sarah when she was disappointed after her 'mother's' last wish. Were the similarities between the new and old McMillans more than skin deep? She put that question on hold to answer 'Vanessa's' question. "Look in your purse."
"Why don't you go look in your purse, my darling daughter? And what am I supposed to look for?"
"Try your wallet," suggested 'Sarah'.
"Why - oh!" 'Vanessa' saw a photograph of a woman who looked like her but had her blonde hair in a different, long style. She showed the picture to 'Sarah'. "See, there's your 'aunt'. My wish worked!"
"Neither of us knew Vanessa at all," said 'Sarah'. "How do we know that's not Vanessa?"
'Vanessa' thought it was strange that her 'daughter' was referring to her by her first name. "Why would I - I mean, she - carry a picture of herself in her own wallet?"
"Well, like mother, like daughter ... Sarah was such a narcissist." 'Sarah' knew that. She really did like herself. Why would she ever want to be Jon again? And what was she doing, criticizing herself like that? That must have been the Jon in her.
"Oh yeah? Look in your wallet," said 'Vanessa'.
'Sarah' took it out and grumbled as she flipped through shots of 'her' girlfriends and boyfriends. "No photos of me ... but one with two of you, I mean, you and that other lady with the long hair ... I guess she's my aunt now! Why'd you make her that, anyway?"
"I wanted Vanessa to remain as intact as possible," explained 'Vanessa'. "She probably had the same childhood, same everything, except for a new name, a new sister - me - and no you or Fred or Mr. McMillan. And a different house. Maybe a job."
"So now that you're Vanessa, whatever happened to Karyn in this new reality?" asked 'Sarah'.
