Jon was having his own problems that morning. The school day had barely started, and a couple of Sarah's cronies had already hassled him, tripping him in the hallway and knocking his books out of his hands. The worst part of it was when Sarah's flunky Tanya-a girl!-had shoved him into the wall. Jon hadn't been exactly buff before, but Sarah had wished him into a pudgy little weakling! "I guess I'm going to have to deal with this for a while," he thought, "maybe the rest of junior year-and senior year. I've got to get the wishing stone back somehow!"
At lunchtime, Jon saw Karen-Ethel-alone at a table near the back, and slowly walked towards her; she looked at him disgusted, then finally smiled and motioned for him to sit down. He noticed her tray was loaded up with a huge salad, several pieces of fruit, and a glass of skim milk. "Hey Ethel, how're you doing?" She smiled again. "Oh great-being a mega-obese 16 year old with extra-sweaty armpits has really simplified my social life. I can concentrate more on school-I was thinking UCLA for college, but now I'm thinking Berkely!"
Jon had to smile, as she sounded like the old Karen, when Karen used to use sarcasm on him whenever he said something studpid.
