Sam sat there on the couch, hoping she'd win the bet. Of course she would, her team was only down by 1, and a field goal would win it. The kicker on her team hadn't missed once, there's no way she'd lose the bet. The ball was in the air, and then her face fell when she hear the tell-tale KA-THUNK of the football going long. Her mother, normally not interested in football, sat next to her, with a smile on her face. Sam sighed, knowing her mother won.
The bet had been a simple thing. If Sam's team won, Sam's mother promised to stop pestering her to dress and act more girly. If Sam's team lost, Sam's mother would take her on a makeover for prom. Sam is a rough and tumble sort of girl, despite her stunningly good looks. She loved football, she loved playing soccer, and most importantly, she loved when she'd go home covered in dirt. She loved the almost ghastly appalled look her mother would give her. It wasn't that Sam hated her mother either, it's just that her mother was a little smothering with the whole girly thing. Sam's early youth had been spent in dresses and looking pretty. In fact, it was dress shopping where Sam met Christina, as their mothers had dragged them along. The girls got along together well enough that they quickly became inseparable.
Then puberty hit, and Sam found out about her affinity to sports and her athletic talent. She was a natural at soccer, and her passion for it spread to Christina. Christina turned out to be pretty good at soccer as well, but not quite as powerful nor driven as a player as Sam. Sam's mother would try and try to push Sam to dress more girly, or at least dress up at least once. Sam would always reject her no matter what. Sam was simply too competitive and sporty for that.
That's where the bet came in. Sam's mother knew her daughter would be bullheaded enough to take the bet, even though she knew nothing about football. Before Sam could process much, her mother had already made appointments to the hairdresser and for a quick manipedi. And before Sam knew it, she was sitting in a chair, getting her nails worked on. She'd never admit it to her mother, but the luxury treatment felt amazing. Before too long, Sam's hair and face were made over, and soon Sam saw her new reflection. Instead of the normal sports enthusiast she was used to seeing, her reflection showed a lovely brown haired princess. Sam sat there, jaw to the floor, gazing at an alternate version herself from another dimension. Hair that would be stringy, tangled and inundated with split ends, was done up professionally. Lovely lip gloss adorned her lips, transforming the neglected features into beacons of kissability. Even Sam's eyes popped from the dynamic eyeshadow and eyelashes. Sam was stunned into silence, almost hypnotized by her new look.
Her mother then dragged her to the dress shop. Sam opened her mouth in protest, until her mother handed her a compact mirror. Sam couldn't resist and looked at herself. With her daughter distracted, the sneaky mother then grabbed a mid thigh length, blue sequined , sleeveless cocktail dress, a package of sheer black pantyhose and fitting open toed pumps. The two arrive home, and Sam's mother helps Sam put the clothing on. Her mother walks off into another room, leaving Sam in front of a full body mirror. Looking this way and that way, Sam finds she's alone. She starts posing in the mirror and smile breaks across her face. She finds that it's kinda really fun to model clothing, to walk around in an entirely new fashion. Even the heels are easy to navigate for her. Suddenly, the honking of a limo horn takes her out of her revelry. Sam says goodbye to her mother, and saunters out the door. She gracefully enters the limo, to find Karen and Melanie already sitting there.
