Jon hesitated about what to do next after drawing on the whiskers and mustache. He wasn’t going to go out of his way to prank her any harder, after all, just this might have been more than he was going for. But he was startled out of pondering that by Sarah suddenly speaking up.
“I’m not going to do that Jon.”
“...You’re not going to...” do what? Jon tried to ask, but was interrupted by Sarah.
“Why do you think I hate you?”
Jon realized, Sarah must be speaking to her hallucination, the version of Jon that didn’t come any closer when she wished he wouldn’t. He thought of getting the stone which was now hidden in the back of his closet to guarantee Sarah absolutely wouldn’t have found the real thing, just to wish to be able to see her hallucination in addition to reality, just to help monitor her condition and make sure she didn’t really get into big trouble, but decided he didn’t want to risk having a psychotic break from experiencing multiple realities, and wasn’t sure the best way to go about doing it.
“I was mostly joking before, I’m not going to do anything mean to you. You were just trying to stop me from stealing your magic rock, there’s nothing you should be punished for... what?... No! Jon, calm down!... Jon I know you’re angry but... no!... People like me... No I’m not a psychopath! Why do you think that?!... Can’t you see I’m trying to be civilized here? I could do all sorts of horrible things.... No!... I never did that!... Stop saying that!”
The real Jon was quite shocked when Sarah burst into tears and started crying uncontrollably. What the hell was imaginary him saying?! He kind of wanted to comfort her now, but wasn’t sure how.
“What do you want!” Sarah cried. “I just want people to like me, even you... why are you being so mean to me!... I’m not going to do that... aaaah! I wish you would shut up!... oh my god, Jon, I didn’t mean to do that! I wish you had a mouth again and were back to normal... why didn’t that work!... what are you trying to say? Oh, ok. 4 words.” Sarah looked to the soap in her hand. At least she had calmed down and wasn’t in a crying fit. “The rock? No? Your mouth. All of this. The effects of the rock? Oh wishes? wishes, drink? Bottle? Can? Oh, can’t? Wishes can’t? Ok. Fly. Flutter. Butterfly. Insect, bug, oh, bee? Bee! Oh I get it, the first 3 words are wishes can’t be? Ok. Turn around. U-turn... reverse? Oh, wishes can’t be reverse... wishes can’t be reversed? Oh. Oh, nooooo... oh Jon, I’m so sorry...”
The tragedy Sarah had acted before his eyes was all too obvious. Sarah hadn’t been evil but had done something she couldn’t undo. He was inclined to flick her on the forehead right now and end the nightmare she had accidentally created for herself, but wasn’t big on a confrontation over the fact that he had just tricked her, she might react very negatively. To learn her obviously having accidentally wished Jon’s mouth away was just part of a prank on her. No, he decided it was better to just end it. She would surely just be relieved that no harm had been done.
Jon tried to finger flick Sarah’s forehead but by coincidence she moved out of the way just in time, and then stepped forward and collided with Jon and they both fell over.
“Ahh, what was that!” Sarah said as she got back up. She couldn’t see, hear or feel the real Jon, but the illusion hadn’t extended so far as for her to be unaware that she had just fallen over, after all, and she knew she had fallen over something.
But Jon had hit his head when he fell and was unconscious.
“Maybe I can wish for information?” Sarah said. “I wish, I knew, if there was anything, any way to reverse this. Oh. Really? In the back of the closet?” She got into Jon’s spacious closet and started rummaging around. Until she found something she wasn’t expecting.
Jon woke up to Sarah’s voice coming from inside his closet, saying “a second rock?”
