Within a few days, people had used up their wishes. Life remained uneventful for everyone. The world economy seemed to suffer at first, until all the new money was determined as actually counterfeit. (No one was really smart enough to wish for money that was spendable.)
Jon, Karyn, and even Sarah (who had a change of heart due to all of this) decided to remain in awkward forms and save their eight wishes in case of emergency. For some reason, they felt the urge to split to rock into three pieces to share between themselves.
Unfortunately, the months turned to years, though they remained good friends through high school, once leaving for college, their lives took different paths. Sarah your classic dork, good with computers, bad with social life (he was self conscious about his appearance). Karyn became a sorority girl, but was also an activist for animal rights and against sweatshops. Jon hung out with the freaks and met her first lesbian girlfriend.
One day Jon looked at the rock she had since converted into a necklace. It seemed to have a little color back. She wondered....
