"I think I have an idea," said Jon. "You can reverse everything else, and I can't reverse anything at all, but the big problem is that neither of us can reverse this transformation, even by reinterpreting a wish."."
"Uh-huh."
"But it occurred to me. There's two ways to reverse the stone's magic. One way is to use magic. We can't do that..."
"And another way," said Karyn, "is to do it naturally! I get it."
"That's right. The stone can be changed by other things than the stone. When you got blonde hair the first time, you couldn't wish it brown. But you could dye it brown. Well, if I figure out a way to not be a Goth you, without using the stone, then no matter what I do to myself after that, I'm not reversing any magic."
"The first thing you could try," said Karyn, "is getting off that black lipstick, but I don't know if that's enough. Maybe you have to.. oh. We don't need to fiddle around guessing. I wish I knew if that theory was right!"
A few moments later, Karyn said "Hm."
"What?" asked Jon.
"Well, we're in luck. You only have to reverse the Goth part, which is good, since you don't need to get plastic surgery. Once you've done that, you're far enough away from 'Goth Karyn' already that more changes won't count as reversing it."
"Fine. Let's wish away all my clothes, makeup, and stuff..."
"It won't work. That'd be wishing to reverse part of the spell, it won't work. You have to get rid of your Goth stuff, stop acting Goth, whatever that means, and all of that without any stone magic at all. Maybe you should wear pink!"
"Girls don't have to wear pink!" said Jon. "If I become a tomboy, I'm still not a goth, it should work."
"Whatever," said Karyn. "Basically, you have to live as my twin who's suddenly decided not to be a Goth. It's going to take a while living as a girl before all traces of Goth are gone from your life. Then you can be Jon again...."
