After a short reminder that she should be careful, Jon turned around and went off to his class.
"As soon as I get home, I'll wish a reverse button on it, or even a safeguard for unintended consequences," He shook his head. "Damn, Karyn, you're making me want to keep that thing. No, no! I will wish it out of existence! Send it to Mars, or something."
Jon got his stuff for the next class, sat down to listen to some of his classmates do a presentation on planets, of all things, but he couldn't help thinking what Karyn was up to.
Karyn pressed her back against her locker. All around her the hallways were busy with students running from and towards their different classes. Some stopped by lockers, quickly worked them, and then ran off again. Karyn's finger hovered over the button, a sly smile on her face. While she wanted to have fun with the remote and see what effects it would have, she couldn't completely ignore Jon's warning. They had turned Steve into an inanimate object, and while he was safely tucked away behind her, what other unwarranted side effects could it have? The very randomness of it was both its most exciting and terrifying feature! But it was a device, magic or not, and it must be programmed to work towards certain criteria.
"It picks up on contextual surrounding, but what part of that surrounding does it focus on?" She mused, eyeing a group of goth kids passing by. "Is it the biggest objects? Cultural use... what?"
Bang, the locker next to her closed loudly. She breathed a sigh of relief, noting that she hadn't accidentally pressed the button on the remote.
Karyn turned to the side, noting a portly boy with broad shoulders juggling his bag and books.
"Hey Rob," She said with a smile. "I wonder how you'd change..." She thought before pushing that idea away. It was just too random a chance in this space!
Rob nodded. "Hey Karyn," He frowned, then looked at the clock in the hallway. "We're running late, you know?"
Karyn felt her stomach sink. She noted the clock and realised that, yes, they were running late for their next class!
"Shit, I was in my own world," She muttered, quickly shoving the remote in her pockets, opening the locker and pulling out her notebook and textbooks.
She ran after Rob, narrowly missing her next class...
